It's one of my favorite photos-- It's the day of being reunited, of Bug holding her baby brother on his return to Iowa......
*sigh*
Bug tries really hard. REALLY hard.
It's really hard to be six, contending with the world that's suddenly changed so dramatically. It's changed for all of us--but she's the one I worry about the most.
Everything she's ever known has changed.
She struggles with dealing with it all.
I struggle in helping her deal with it. But we try to muddle through the best we can. Some days it's easier than others.
Today wasn't one of the easy days. She just didn't want to leave. That'd be why we had an upside-down child when it was time for Bug to get things picked up and get in the car so Nana could take her to see her brother and meet up with mom and dad after her weekend with Nana and Grandad.
She just didn't want to go.
Better to stay with Nana and Grandad where she was the center of attention, had plenty of activities and stuff to do with a couple adults who actually had the time to just do stuff with her. That's rare in her world now--which makes it harder for her to leave a place where she does have it.
I'm not sure how to make it easier for her. It's not that I've not offered more, spoken to the parents, made arrangements for the 6 year old/mom/dad so there could be 'alone time' with the 6 year old....but it's fleeting and ends too quickly.
She loves her baby brother.
She told Santa what she wanted for Christmas--it was for her baby brother to get better.
She made a wish on the wishing tree for her baby brother to get better. She makes wishes on falling stars--those wishes are always for the same thing....for her baby brother to get better.
We all want that.
We all wish for that---
But in the interim--I wish for Bug to rest and just FEEL the love we have for her. Cuz it's huge and unending. And it just freaking breaks my heart that she struggles so much right now....

We've been thinking about you...
Loving photo <3
Keeping you and your little family close in my thoughts...
xo
Just found your post, I've been nursing the flu.
I think about you every day, wishing and praying for a miracle. Perhaps Bug's strong innocent wishes are being heard.
So hard on all of you.
Thanks for posting, my dear friend.
Be strong... Sorry.
I have been away too long and missed the latest news about the baby. You will win through with the Bug... it will take time, but you'll get there.
Oh Mel, I've been reading up on the past couple of hell months you've just trudged thru.... I've been "away", offline, for awhile. I'm thrilled to see him looking plumper and if not well, at least looking a wee bit stronger after these past couple of months. I hear your pain.... And have no words to help. I believe things will be hard and get better with hard parts in between but this little guy's a fighter. You can see it in the photos, especially where he's got one tiny eye open looking right at the photographer. It warmed my heart. Take care with a special prayer for your little one who's growing up too fast. Xox
My heart hurts with yours. Bug had a pretty abrupt change in her lifestyle... certainly not as easy as a new sibling easing in ... in the normal way. Being without mom for such a long time and everything upside down. Yeah. I'd be upside down if I were being expelled from the grands' cocoon, even if it was to be with the people I really really loved. I'm sure it just doesn't feel very secure. Poor child. So glad that she has you looking out for her at this time and being the constant that she needs.
It's so good to see baby brother and to learn he has come 'home.' I know there is much ahead... but each step forward is a gift and a blessing.
Hugs and prayers, Mel!!
Dear lovely Mel, I'm so sorry I haven't been visiting and didn't know all this was going on.
Poor Bug, poor you and poor family, what a rotten lot of stuff to have to deal with. I'm sure you're all dealing, with courage and wisdom and serenity. And the Bug has so much love around her, she'll feel it, I'm sure.
Lots of love to you dear Mel

Mel, my heart aches for you all. Bug is fortunate to have the loving safe haven you provide. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it is for her. Really for you all. Sending loving thoughts and prayers your way.
Sorry I haven't been around in a while, have been dealing with a lot of those being human issues.
