NYE Tradition

Oh look....the sun....sorta.....

*happy humming*

The bug is coming.

And I have new tires on the car. It decided to start wobbling on me. I handed the mechanic the keys and told him to not bring it back til it was better.
He listened.
I handed him a check.
Done deal.

I like the simple solutions.

The bug is coming.
Woulda had her four nights had I been able to weasle my way outta some work time. It's not that I don't have the time to take--I just don't have the bodies.
And no way was I leaving himself on his own to handle the bug.
She's a ball of energy--and if he gets down to play with her, getting up could be a problem. 'Specially on his own. *laughing* I ain't kiddin'.
By the time he managed it, she could be in Alaska.....or worse yet--in Nana's toy basket(s). She kinda likes Nana's toy basket(s).

And she crawls out of cribs now.
I suggested he file that way in his knowledge base.
This was after I removed the markers from one of Nana's toy baskets.
This was after the bug coloured herself green and orange.....and stuck the markers under the door (I thought that was an ingenious move--that way she'd remember which colours were already on her little face and body! The girl didn't think it was so ingenious, but she's 'the mom' and she seems to not remember making mud cookies and body painting and the messy fun THIS mom encouraged--mostly as an excuse to get ucky and messy myself cuz I'm like that....)

So--I was thinkin' she could sleep in the big bed--with Nana. :-)
There's stuffies in the headboard in case she gets bored.
And I was thinkin' a couple snacks on the night stands, just in case one of us gets hungry.
And there's the small stereo in there--we could play Elmo songs or sea noises, whatever she fancied to go to sleep by.
And she could sandwich great between me and himself--wouldn't haffta worry about her falling out even!

Of course himself wasn't thinking that at all.

Guestroom.

Pfffffffffftttttt.
How boring is that.

Today's Reading

Nurturing is neither silly nor self-indulgent; it's how we show love for ourselves. That's what we're striving for - a loving relationship with ourselves that works, so we can have loving relationships with others that work.

When we hurt, we ask ourselves what we need to help us feel better. When we feel alone, we reach out to someone safe. Without feeling that we are a burden, we allow that person to be there for us.

We rest when we're tired; eat when we're hungry; have fun or relax when our spirits need a lift. Nurturing means giving ourselves gifts - a trip to the beauty salon or barbershop, a massage, a book, a new jacket, or a new suit or dress. It means a long, hot bath to forget about our problems and the world for a few moments when that would feel good.

We learn to be gentle with ourselves and to open up to the nurturing that others have to offer us.

We learn to give ourselves what we need in a gentle, loving, compassionate way. We do this with the understanding it will not make us lazy, spoiled, self centered, or narcissistic. Nurtured people are effective in their work and in their relationships.

We will learn to feel loved by ourselves so much that we can truly love others and let them love us.

English Lesson

Mom. All she's said since we got home is 'Ta'.

(I paused.....cleared my throat and gave it my best shot.) She's so funny.....

No. Mom. Every time I give her something she says 'Ta'. 'Ta.' 'Ta.' 'Ta.' She doesn't say 'Thank you' anymore....she says 'Ta'.

Well, it could be worse.....she could say 'About damn time you handed it over'.

MOM.

Well......

We do reap, in some measure, at some time, what we sow.
Our respect for others will result in kind.
Our love expressed will return tenfold.
The kindness we greet others with will ease their relations with us.
We get from others what we give, if not at this time and place, at another.
We can be certain that our best efforts toward others do not go unnoticed

Extremes

From tears to unbridled laughter in 2.5 seconds.

First there was the kitty that the neighbor's dog attacked--I heard the dog and himself saw the cat. And of course I had to go out in the sleet and freezing rain......to console the dying and shed some tears. That shouldn't happen. Not in my world, not on my sidewalk....not to some strange cat belonging to someone unknown. I know the dog was just doing what some dogs do. I just didn't like it. And I was.....am sad for the kitty that died. I'm grateful for the neighbor that collected the cat, that apologized for the happening, that removed the kitty. And I'm grateful for himself who stroked the kitty's head before it passed over to be with G-d.
But not in my world. Not on my sidewalk......not that way......

And after a good cry and more than a few hugs, I tried to settle in with my paper and pen.

And then the phone rang.

"Ms. Mel? I've called to report my behavior."

My staff are so funny. They come to understand that I expect no less from them than I expect from the kiddos. I gotta say, the kiddos 'report their behavior' it in a much more sophisticated manner.

"I've broken the wireless connection..... You know that piece of tape on the wireless router....?"

Ah. The one that says 'do not push this button--resets to default'?

"Yep--that one......"

You pushed it?

"I pushed it. Well, yeah but see....I pushed it so it would reset."

Uh huh. So you removed the tape that said 'do not push this button' to push the button.

"Yup--that's what I did. But I thought I was resetting it."

To default.....

"Well, I thought I was resetting it so it would work...and it doesn't.....so I broke it......"

Right. So let me get this right....... You pulled OFF the tape that said 'do NOT push this button' so you could push the button it says not to push.

"Yup. That's about the gist of it....."

And now the wireless won't work because it's been reset (cuz you pushed that button under the tape that says 'do not push') to the factory settings and erased all the staff's MAC addresses.

"Yeah, but I thought I was resetting it....."

This is when I burst out in a fit of laughter.
I did tell him it was an easy fix--I have a list of all the MAC addresses to re-enter into the wireless.
And I did tell him that I felt worse that he did this with the rest of the staff's knowledge--cuz they'll NEVER let him live it down. (I could hear 'em laughing in between my fits of laughter.)

I'm glad I have a G-d with extraordinary timing.

And I'm glad I have a Brit who did hard, loving things one minute and five minutes later he's graciously printing me out several papers to attach to the wireless connector--including "Buttons are NOT toys!! (no really John, they aren't)" and "DO NOT PUSH THIS BUTTON--this means you too, John".

I figure a few well placed neon arrows couldn't hurt.

*laughing*

I'm hopeful that John will never run for the presidency.
G-d help us all if he does..... *laughing*

Artwork

Whaddaya do.....

When they melt-down, they melt-down.

I was okay with the melt-down. Those I know how to deal in. I have kiddos and families that melt-down all the time.
It was the tossing of the rolled up, boneless turkey --into the trash.
The "I've ruined Christmas."
The "The one thing I was looking forward to today......".
The "Great. JUST great......."

The outward fluff before the inward issues at hand.

The fact still remains.....

I do not know what to do when himself gets angry.
I've never quite figured that out.
Screaming adolescents, swearing parents. Attorney, worker, court officers--staff members.....I can deal with all of them getting angry. But let it happen with himself....I tuck myself in tight and wait it out, hoping stuff gets shoved in another direction.....FAST.

The holiday was interesting--even if it wasn't necessarily 'fun'.
I've spent time looking for my part in it all.
Maybe I 'shoulda' done some things different prior to the explosion.
k....it wasn't really loud or ugly, just mightily uncomfortable.
I don't see where I contributed to it directly--mostly his perception of his contribution and the importance he placed on pulling off what he perceived as his part of the holiday.
It just wasn't that freaking important to me.

I don't like when things don't come off as I planned, but I've come to count on that happening..stuff happens.
I just don't place the importance in that stuff as he does.
He's got it filed under 'worth and value' stuff and it just doesn't work that way for me.

Eventually we got to that point--but it turned upsidedown there for a bit with me wondering which direction I needed to go with it....if any..... Tucked in tight and waiting.

Melt-down happened.

Not much of it, if any, was about me/us/the circumstances--more like the icing on the cake, I guess.
Still---one more time I was trying to buy time and figure out (after the fact) just what in the heck I'm suppose to do with that outwardly angry stuff.

I guess I did okay.
I managed to buy time until he got around to the real problem.
I just didn't like it.
And I need to figure out what in the heck this 'tuck it up and scramble' is about.

I have no issue jumping into the midst of the mess when it's other people.

Too close to the exploder, maybe?
Sheeeeeeshhhhhh.

The broccoli was good!

Right.
I'll keep looking.
Maybe on paper since it's not coming to me.
Cuz I'm pretty sure I'm in there somewhere......
Next to the trashed rolled, boneless turkey that was NOT a boneless turkey breast, for at least a little bit I'm sure.

:-/

Right.
Paper.
Pen.
Pretty candle!

Pretty candle will help, I'm sure.....

*humming*

Still, still, still
One can hear the falling snow
For all is hushed
The world is sleeping
Holy Star, its vigil keeping
Still, still, still
One can hear the falling snow.

Sleep, sleep, sleep
'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth
The night is peaceful all around you
Close your eyes
Let sleep surround you
Sleep, sleep, sleep
'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth.

Dream, dream, dream
Of the joyous day to come
While guardian angels without number
Watch you as you sweetly slumber
Dream, dream, dream
Of the joyous day to come.

Pink Frosting

Awwwwww .... and YUM!!!!

It's apt to happen. People ask how the holiday was--if you had a good Christmas....

And then they ask what your favorite gift was.
Leastwise those were the popular questions at work yesterday.

I could answer the second question truthfully.

I got singing penguins for the table! I'm a happy bunny.
Yeah, yeah....doesn't take much to make Mel happy.

And I rather liked the stacking spinning tops.....with the trigger thingy that makes 'em go 'round and 'round.
I'm yet to get all 5 stacked and going, but it's great fun to make 'em all whiz around.
And I'm all sortsa excited about the penguins that himself is disallowed to cover up with a plate. He tells me that makes serving dinner an interesting proposition.....but dinner around here is an interesting affair in and of itself!

OH!!!!!! And YUM!! Not only did I get some very cool reindeer which I don't wanna eat (they're chocolate--they won't last into the New Year....LOL....poor things.....)
I got beautiful candles that smell heavenly........which I don't wanna burn--which I will burn cuz that's what they're made for and I want the whole house to smell of cloves and STUFF while I'm downing the reindeer and waving at the singin' penguiny guys on the table.
(thank you thank you thank you!!!! The prezzies will be loved into their extinction--which will be a totally GOOD thing!!--'cept for the waistband....but that's probably a good thing too!)

<-- smells REALLY awesome not burning

<-- has 2 so can burn one and sniff the other

*snickering*

OR....I can burn one WHILE I sniff the other!
WHILE eating chocolate reindeers.....
And assembling penguiny ornaments....
WHILE wearing blinky lights around my neck.
WHILE singing Auld Lang Syne loud and off key!!!!!!

*doing happy dance*

Ohhhhhh...I think I just made plans for New Years!

HA!!!
And he was worried I'd be bored on New Years.

AND I have a stacking spinning top thingie! :-)
But he best not cover up the penguiny guys.......... or else......

Today's Fairy Reading

Our attitude toward our needs is important.
We must value them and take them seriously if we expect others to take us seriously.
When we begin to place value and importance on our needs we'll see a remarkable change. Our wants and needs will begin to get met.

QOTW

Do you ever run away from home?
Yup-- I'm assuming everyone does. I run away on a regular basis.
Sometimes it's with himself, sometimes it's not.

I like adventures.
And I cherish my 'alone time'.
Maybe sometimes more than I oughta, but there ya have it.

Most times himself knows when I'm running away.
Sometimes......notsomuch....

Fact is, I'll probably run away this morning--before I head into the worksite.
Might even take the camera as an alibi.....

Fairy Dust Again

When you make a habit of expecting the best, you will occasionally be disappointed. Though it is a risk, it's a risk that's well worth taking.
The alternative to being occasionally disappointed as a result of your high expectations is to be continually unfulfilled. Which would you rather have?

The Keeping of the NYE Tradition

<-- will be coming to spend New Years Eve with Nana and Dadoh.

<-- will be bringing Elmo jammies to wear

<-- will be happily giggling and dancing to the Elmo Duck song

Ohhhhh yessssss....we're excited!!!

Oh yes--it snowed......

And somehow this--is so much more beautiful to behold.....

.
.

Than this......

Yeah--it's about 5 feet deep on the side of the driveway. Kinda like the beginnings of a good tunnel! (It's only December--we could accomplish a tunnel...there's still time!!)

I'da made a snow angel, but after 20 inches in less than a week--I was a bit concerned someone woulda left me in the snowbank. (or put me in one....LOL)

*humming*

*snickering*

Of course it's:

LET it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!! ;-)

Oh, I do love to live on the edge. *laughing*
I think I'll go hug 'im and sing to 'im!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!

She likes the trike.

I mean she REALLY likes the trike.
So much she couldn't be bothered with the other prezzies.....

She REALLY REALLY likes the trike.

:-)

Happy Holiday!!

Wishing you and yours the warmth and joy of the season.

Fairy Reminder

Where we stand today is far removed from our position last year, or even last week. Each and every moment offers us new input that influences any decision from this moment forward. The process that we're participating in guarantees our growth as long as we remain conscious of our opportunities and willingly respond to them. We can be glad that the life process is, in fact, never static. always moving, always inviting us to participate fully.

Holiday Frosting

Today's Thought

Some days it may seem that your actions are not very effective. Even so, the best thing you can do is to keep doing all you can.
Sometimes it may feel that although you care deeply about the world, the world does not care much about you. Even so, it is much better that you continue to care.

There will be times when you give all you have, and end up with nothing to show for it. Keep giving though, for the rewards are surely there, even if they are too profound for you to see just yet.

The disappointments may sometimes be so painful that you feel like giving up. Remember though, it is your caring that makes the disappointment possible, and that very same caring will pull you up and push you forward.

Though you may be reluctant to admit it, you can make any situation into a valuable, successful experience. You can live with love, joy and fulfillment even when everything seems to be pushing against you.

The circumstances of this moment may not feel particularly desirable. Even so, there is a beautiful treasure that's yours to give, and yours to live in this very place, on this very day.

Glory

Reading for the Day

There is an end to grief if we have the courage to accept our personal goodness and our ongoing right to happiness.
-- Justin Langley

Making peace with our losses takes time and trust. In the past, we may have acted in ways that were heartbreaking to ourselves and others. But now we have a new choice; we can walk the road of self-forgiveness and stop punishing ourselves for past deeds, or we can decide that we don't deserve to feel good, that clinging to our pain, guilt, and self-loathing will somehow make up for some of the damage.

Believing our wrongs are too great to be righted leaves us in a perpetual state of mourning. It's a risk, but we can choose to believe that change is possible, not all at once but slowly, one day at a time.

When we take the leap of faith necessary to grieve and let go of the past, we take back our best selves, and the lives we were meant to live.

QOTW

Think for a bit--what were your three favorite gifts the last holiday season?
Most people find that hard to answer. Why do you think that is/why do you think you remembered?

I know one. And I know it because it sits in front of me every day--that cute little 'Nana' photo frame with the bug's picture in it. I'm hard pressed to remember any other ones.

Seriously.
And I've given it thought--

Why do I think that is?
Well, aside from the fact that I have so much stuff in my brain that when new stuff arrives old stuff falls out--I tend to remember what's important on a personal level. Something in me gets wrapped around the moment or the item and value gets created.
Now that's not to say that I didn't value the other things gifted to me.

........or maybe it does.....

Or maybe it just means I need more coffee before answering questions. LOL

I'm gonna haffta THINK some more, now! (after more coffee, of course!)

Today's Fairy Reminder

Should everybody like me?

When people say they are people-pleasers, they're acknowledging that it's a problem.

It's a problem because it reflects a desire to have everybody's acceptance and approval - to be universally liked. But from what we know about human relationships, this is not possible. No matter how hard we work to be pleasant and likeable, some people may still detest us for reasons we cannot understand. When that happens, we should not blame ourselves or step up our efforts to win them over. Our best course is to be cordial to them and to avoid giving offense in any way.

If our own behavior is mature and reasonable, even the people who don't like us will at least respect us. That may be the best we can hope for, and it is certainly far better than shameless people pleasing. In the end, people-pleasers don't please anybody and, as a famous comedian notes about himself, they "get no respect."

I'll try hard to be pleasant and cordial to everyone I meet today. If some people do not respond in the same way, I'll accept this without feeling hurt or betrayed.

This weeks desktop

BAD Nana....

I broke her heart.

O
M
G...... I broke her heart.

Did I tell the girl it was a 'maybe' cuz of the weather?
Yup. I did.

Did the bug walk around all morning saying "Nana" cuz the girl 'mentioned' that I might come see her after a stupid meeting....

Did we get five inches of snow dropped on us during the course of the morning that no one predicted?

Did the bug wake up from her nap saying "Nana", go from room to room looking and stand at the door?

"Awwwww....she's going to be sad. She's still saying 'Nana' and walking around the house."

"I'm trying to tell her 'No Nana' and it's not sinking in yet--she's going to be sad when it does."

"Oh great--real tears and laying on the floor now.... Thanks a lot Nana!"

Wanna see me do guilt REAL quick?!
O
M
G

I made her cry. And I didn't even have solid plans--that was IF the meeting got done on time and IF the weather allowed.....

I can't really choke the girl. The bug just heard the girl mention to her partner that I might drop over. I WANNA choke her for mentioning it....only cuz it felt horrid. SO horrid that I almost turned the car around to continue driving on crappy roads in the opposite direction of 'home'.

I did call when I got home. And I talked with the bug for a good 20 minutes. Well, I asked her what a cow says and what's under the tree and what colour her shirt was--she's more of an 'answer the question' kinda talker if she's not babbling. And I did de-code several words that the girl couldn't 'get'. And she did get to talk with dadoh, and he did sing her the Elmo Song (at my 'suggestion'--and no he's not talking to me...LOL....).

Still.
I broke her heart--even if momentarily.

It's probably my issue--she's not 2 yet and went on to the next thing 20 seconds later. Still...I remember loads of disappointments/unkept promises by my parent. It's probably why it's so HUGE to me when folks say AND DO.

The heck of it is, I didn't promise. *laughing*
That didn't keep the girl from helping me feel crummy for a promise I didn't make.
Oh she's a manipulative one--

I'm going to insist she make some advancements in her communications with the other other boy.

"N-A-N-A might V-I-S-I-T"

We'll see how her spelling goes.
In a 'spellcheck' world, this could be interesting. *laughing*

Things that make me happy

....holiday CD's--for some reason this week it's Enya?

....giving the neighbor's a goodie basket.

....candy cane ornaments on the tree.

....prezzies--of the unknown type. :-D

....curly ribbons on gold wrapping paper.

....6' high piles of snow. (see me come February...LOL)

....shuffling through new snow with kiddos.

Today's Reading

Sometimes we are bewildered by the options open to us. We feel we have no way of knowing which course would be best. But when we reflect calmly on our choices, we usually find very few that are realistic, that are in tune with our personalities and consonant with the rest of our lives.

It sometimes seems that a choice made, or an option dropped, when we are very young, can determine our whole lives. This is probably an illusion. Perhaps we believe that our fate was forever altered by missing a train ten years ago. Late at night, we might talk wistfully of what might have been, "If only I'd caught that train..."

Most likely, though, our lives would have turned out pretty much the same. What happens to us, and what we choose, seem to follow the same pattern - a pattern that is true for each one of us. We've marked out our paths, whether we're fully aware of them or not.

Sometimes I am indecisive because I desire to remain open to life's choices. Today I will act freely and strengthen that freedom by making responsible decisions.

Quilt Barn #11

Good grief....or YEAH ME!!

What was I thinking?!

*sigh*
I wasn't.
I JUST got the Chex Mix made......as in tonight.....
We just wrapped the bug's prezzies--and there's boxes to get mailed.
Should they have been already IN the mail...... *sigh* Yes.

I'm just not with it.
I haven't been with it.....too wrapped up sideways in all this 'stuff' going on around me.

But we have bug prezzies under the tree.
Omgosh....we had to stick some BACK into the closet for birthday prezzies. NOT my fault....well, not JUST my fault. Dadoh had his piece. Dadoh had SEVERAL pieces, truth be told. Nana just scooped up sales and stuck things in the closet as she found 'em. DADOH went nutz when holiday stuff started hitting the stores. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL)

I guess I can curse myself for the lateness in 'getting it done'--but I think I'd prefer to celebrate that it IS done. (well.....'cept for the prezzies that need to get mailed out--which WILL happen tomorrow!)

Oh--and it snowed.
Of course it was only going to give us 1-2" and gave us 6". *laughing*
And THIS is why I refuse to even watch the weather channel.

TFTD

Fill up your life.

One of the good things about the blues is their power to make me feel better. No matter how bad it gets in my little world, I can be pretty sure that B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, or Stevie Ray Vaughn has seen worse. Sometimes, it just feels good to vocalize all those bad feelings.

Bad things happen in life. Sometimes they are small annoyances; sometimes they are the major grief mongers. What matters is not what happens to us, but how we react to it. Stuff happens. That is a fact. Now after you get done with the quart of rocky road that you are drowning your sorrows in, what are you going to do about it? You can sit around and complain to your friends about how unfair life is, or you can get up, put the empty bowl in the dishwasher, and go fill up your life.

Feelings are one of the blessings of being human. All of them. Sometimes we feel good; sometimes we feel bad. Take some time. Take some energy and be upset. Be aware of the feeling of being upset. But then get up, go out, and make positive use of your life.

Shimmerings

Fairy Thought

We need tenderness and caring from our families and friends. We need their acceptance, understanding, and support. Sometimes we need their criticism and forgiveness.

Whatever our needs are, other people will probably be involved in getting them met. If we expect those close to us to read our minds and know exactly what we want without being told, we will probably be disappointed. Being honest and candid about our needs and feelings is an important goal. True, the other person may say no, but being able to make a reasonable request raises our self-esteem and opens the door to communication.

Today, I will take the risk of asking someone directly for something I want.

Slightly Irritable.....

Yes!.....

  • prezzies were drug out and strewn about the bedroom
  • wrapping happened--one third down, two thirds to go!
  • the dreaded dripping faucet in the kitchen is fixed, tyvm!
  • there IS only room for one plumber in this house....just sayin'....
  • breaktime on a backroad DID happen--
  • I irritated the eagle..... (sorrysorrysorry!!)
  • I had a gluten free pizza tonight that was....ummmm....doable!
  • bathtime will involve duckies and bubbles and toys.

:-)

Fairy Thought

The most powerful form of helping others comes down to helping ourselves. When we do our own work and are honest and open about it, we impact others more than by our most well intentioned "helping" gesture.
We cannot change others, but when we change ourselves, we may end up changing the world.

Decked

We are definitely 'decked'. We have been for weeks.
Lights are up and out. Tree's up. There's snowflakes on the windows and all the pretties are in their places.....

And with all the snow....it's awesome!

Only, there's a bit of a problem.
I haven't wrapped one prezzie.
Nope.
Not one.
And I haven't made any goodies...zilch...nil...

We had the staff holiday party and I took--a platter with cheese and meat. k.....I know, I know....boring.

Sorta looks like the holidays around here.
'Cept we're missing some key pieces.
One of which is that incessant LOUD and off-key singing of "I wanna hippopotamus for Christmas".....that ain't been happenin' either....

Which only goes to show that I need to get outta my slump and get going.
It's not like I don't know when the holidays are.
Duh....same time every year, Mel.

I'm just not with it.
And I need to get with it.
I know it ain't about MEMEME and I'm acting like it is.

Right.
Tomorrow--prezzie wrapping.
I did get the closet cleared out and all the 'stuff' hauled into the bedroom for wrapping purposes. So that's progress.

Tomorrow!!!!

I MEAN IT!

Oyyyy.....
And I have a pretty good clue that I'm not finished with holiday shopping, too.
Greatttttttt.

k....

TOMORROW--wrapping. Period!
AND loud, off-key singing!

Oy brother--I am soooooooooo far behind......

Snow lit

Thought for the Day

When written in Chinese, the word crisis is composed of two characters--one represents danger and the other represents opportunity.
—John F. Kennedy

Family crises are unavoidable. At times, things are going to break down. This is no reason to give up and abandon ship. These breakdowns are the things, which will strengthen our lives together if we do not lose faith. The Einstein family had a crisis of sorts when their little boy, Albert, did not talk until he was four years old. But what looked like a problem at first did not end up that way in the long run.

We can expect downhill slides once in a while, and we may even start to feel full of self-pity. With faith that these setbacks are meant to help us grow stronger, we won't waste them and end up having to face them again and again until we do recognize their true purpose.

What setback can I use to grow stronger today?

Play Break Again!!!!

There is no rule that says I have to be and think and act the same way my whole life. Today is a clean slate. I can be who I want to be.

Thanks be for that one.
I needed the reading this morning.
I woke up to a ton of new snow...and a head full of knowlege.

And I went into the day prepared to use it.

Well...sorta prepared.
I went in with muttons and a hat since school was delayed..... And promptly suggested to 8 adolescents that they 'might' wanna make snowangels. And maybe sled....and maybe use their empty soon to be picked up by the recycling squad cardboard boxes as a sled since I didn't wanna be bothered to go to the basement to retrieve the expensive sleds that we have housed down there....

And we had three that didn't WANNA go......who went anyways cuz I told 'em I didn't CARE what they wanted--they don't know what's good for 'em, getcher muttons and boots cuz we're going.
Yup--nine snowangels in a row. With halos no less.
And we slid down the hill on boxes.
AND we had a snow fight.
A mutton full of snow....pshaw. Turn around and dig like a mad dog and get 'em between your legs. HA. The only bad thing about the whole deal--THEY had dry clothes to change into. *I* did not. But I dried my arse on the heater--and the staff were kindly enough to gift me with polka-dotted underthingies (IN front of the kiddos no less)....so I had dry clothes and everybody knew what colours my...ummm.. ....yeah....too much information!!!!

I played with the kiddos--and got grounded in zactly why I do what I do. And then I had the meeting with the JCO that was on my calendar...on speakerphone cuz the roads were impossibly rough with the snow on top of the ice.

It was a good day.
Go figure.

Oh....and then the other 12 kids wanted to go play in the snow. *laughing*
And they did.

No worries.
I told the other staff member where the stash of new underthingies were.

She chose stripes, bytheway....
I knew everyone would wanna know that.
So I made sure that happened.

Couldn't be the ONLY one whose underthingies were up for public knowledge dontchaknow...
*laughinglaughinglaughing*

Fairy Reading for the Day

We can't get away from ourselves, at least not entirely. Who we were at ten and twenty and forty and fifty remain as threads in our tapestries. Many of us shudder because some details of our personal panorama weren't so very pretty. But that's the way life is. We are what we are. And yet, we have examples of favorable changes, too. How we were never kept us from becoming who we wanted to be. This truth continues to reign in our lives.

We all know women and men who continue to be enthused about even the tiny happenings in the passing of a day. A bird's flight from the porch to a nearby tree to feed its young, the laughter of children passing the house on their way home from school, the family reunions, large or small, bring smiles and memories that comfort. Probably we envy those folks, unless we happen to be them already. In either case, imitating others or serving as their role models helps to strengthen our positive responses to life's details. No matter how old we are, there is still joy to be felt. And there is still time to change and grow.

There is no rule that says I have to be and think and act the same way my whole life. Today is a clean slate. I can be who I want to be.

Ah yes......holidays......

Remember how easy the holidays were when we were young?

NO!
I remember the chaos and the frantic planning and replanning, the crazymaking and flared tempers and the INSANITY.....THAT I remember....
I think it's a sign of old age to glamorize holidays that used to be insane.
What I DO remember is the step-mother going nutz every time--much like himself who MUST know the plans before people arrive--unlike me who simply says 'whatever--whenever!'
Yes, I remember the holidays when we were young......OMG I think I'm living 'em again! AGAIN!!!!!

Geeze I hate to think the Big Guy was training me for life with the Brit when He gifted me with a neurotic, VERY Catholic step-mother.
But it's true--she used to come unglued when the kids all came home for the holidays. Who was coming when, with whom--what meals would they be here for....what would she fix, how would she get everyone 'bedded in' for the visit. O M G
And heaven forbid if plans would have to change......she'd have a melt down.

Yup. Much like himself.....

Seriously--I prefer 'whatever, whenever'.

We'll deal when folks are here and they can work with me to figure it out.
Help me shop even!

Ohhhhhhhh nooooooooo.

The good news--smile and nod is STILL in my repetoire'.
I've had a whole lotta practice!

The Fence Row View

What am I thinking......

I've started some strange ritual of taking a cup of coffee outside in the mornings.
Outside.

In the frozen morning.

What in the HECK am I thinking?!

Yup--coat on, fuzzy quacking duckie slippers, muttons and hat....off I go...
In the dark no less.

One cup of coffee in the silent nothingness of the pre-dawn.

It appears to be working for me.

I keep doing it......

Today's Reading

Love involves a willingness to suffer and to be inconvenienced.
--Lewis F. Presnall

The act of loving another broadens our understanding of the human condition and often pinches our egos. Indeed, one of the greatest gifts, though not necessarily cherished, which is granted through loving another, is that we gain humility and thus healthier, smaller egos.

How often do we say the words, "I love you," and yet resent being detained by our loved ones? How frequently do we expect to get our own way when resolving a conflict? Is the silent treatment a manipulative ploy we commonly rely on when problem solving with a spouse or lover?

Love wears many faces and it means not always getting our own way, or never doubting the other's sincerity. We aren't guaranteed happiness forever after, even when we know we're loved. But what giving and receiving love does promise us is growth, periods of peacefulness, some poignantly painful times, and many chances to demonstrate that another's well being is a priority, which in turn assures us of our own well being.

Things that make me happy

....houses decorated with holiday lights.

....snowman snow. :-)

....shiny, glittery wrapping papers.

....snuggly quilts on subzero days.

....the itty bitty tree on the antique smoking stand.

....the smell of popcorn popping.

....twinkling snowflakes.

Fairy Wisdom

Birds sing after a storm. Why shouldn't we?
--Rose Kennedy

Some of us have been through an awful lot. We have endured pain and hopelessness. Now we have some choices to make. We can allow our pasts to make us feel bad about ourselves or we can sing after the storm. We can feel proud that we are not giving up, we are not willing to be destroyed.

The past won't change, and the bad things won't magically go away. But we can learn to move forward.

We can put the past where it belongs, close enough so we'll never forget, and far enough away so we don't give it all of our attention. The sun doesn't just make rainbows for other people; they're for us too.
