Peek-a-boo

Sleeping with Bread

It is quite simple. You simply ask yourself, in the last day/week/month what gave me consolation and what caused me desolation.

There's a personal touch people add to things that make those 'things' uniquely theirs....different from whatever I could create or what I could receive from other places.

That's true of the bread makers in my life.
My step-mother made the best bread on the planet..... Maybe it was her 'pinch of this, dash of that'. Maybe it was that someone else made it and I didn't have to.... Or maybe it was just the personal touch of her hands as she kneeded.

It was different from what I tried to re-create.
It was just uniquely 'hers'.
I never could replicate it.
Neither could anyone else--which is just fine.
I want it to remain 'specially hers'.

And there are those folks who can get away with saying things to me that other people cannot.
No, I don't get to shoot the messenger.....but I can hear things differently based on the nature of my relationship with the person giving me the message.
Right, wrong or indifferent--that's where it is today.

I can (and do) pray I outgrow that some day--but for today.....I'm grateful for the personal touches that the people in my life add to 'things' and to 'life'.
It makes what they give me, what they offer me--uniquely 'bourne of their heart' and somehow more 'special' and 'different'......

It's those 'personal touches' that have been my consolation this week.
The gift of things said or done have made the world of difference to me and my attitude and my actions this week.
And because I know my attitude and actions don't stand independent of the world I live in, I know a bit of how those personal touches rippled out to those around me.
I'm very, very grateful for that.......

The desolation.......
......of all the silly things--and I do know there are 'bigger deals' going on around me......was the silly visit with the nutritionist.
I picked my battle--and she won....or lost, however you care to look at it.

I'm still on 'rawr' mode about that ordeal.
Perhaps it's my way of avoiding all those things I feel out of control of.

But--
I swear--if I heard 'you need more protein' ONE MORE TIME from that nutritionist, I was gonna do bodily harm to her.

Here comes the attitude---

I drink the stupid Ensure shakes.
For a year I've done 'em.
For years I've not liked 'em.
I still don't like 'em.
But the nutrionist said....

*sigh*
So I drink the stupid shakes.

People have tried to talk me into meat.
........I like meat even less than I like Ensure shakes.
The texture is what does me in.
I can do poultry--I won't do meat.

And himself promised me wayyyyyy back that I wouldn't HAVE to eat anything I didn't like ANYmore.

He's stuck to that, even when he hasn't liked the protein level I sported. He's kept his word.
It's not like he's not tried different things to entice me into having a different relationship with meat--he has.
He's also accepted when I held it in my mouth, shook my head, did the 'uh uh.......' and spat it out.

Yes--that's how childish I can act......

Hand over the shake, that's the compromise--I'll deal. But do NOT make me eat meat.
Dunno when I went over that edge--I just know I did.

For years I'd been hearing about 'boiled-peanuts' from one of my southern friends. For years I dismissed it as one of those 'southern things' that us 'yankee' folks don't DO.
For some reason, it was the 'you need the protein--I'm worried about you' that got it.
'Bourne of the heart'--it was that 'personal touch'.......

And tonight I won't be consuming one of those evil Ensure shakes the nutritionist has ordered me to drink.
Amen to that one.

And just for the record....... I won't be giving up my divided red plate either.
Pfooey on her. (Yes--I still have a bit of an attitude......)

Perhaps for some folks the 'eye' is the deceiver--they can put a chicken breast on a bigger plate and convince themself that the chicken breast is 'smaller' than it truly is.....cuz it 'looks smaller on the bigger plate'.
Good for them.

I ain't givin' up my little red divided plate.
I won't 'eat more' based on the size of the plate.
Really.
I won't.

Oy brother--
I did mention that I still might have a bit of an attitude........right?

*sigh*
Somewhere in all this I did mention that I know enough not to shoot the messenger.....
.............dang........

Ta Da!!!

The bug showed me her new trick today......

And when I put her back into place.......

Yup........she showed me again!
*laughing*
She's a smart one.
Already she's figured out--if some is good.........

*laughing laughing laughing*

Awwwwwww.......poor thing......

A new study shows that licking the sweat off a frog can cure depression.

The down side is, the minute you stop licking, the frog gets depressed again.

Erica Hummer

She sat pretty for the photo.

Wasn't that kind of her? :-)

Nope.

Nah. I haven't made it to the garage yet...

But I did do the kitchen windows, laundry and fixed another pot of coffee.

And talked with himself--who's a bit sad and feeling alone.
The Mum will be getting remaining in the hospital until the put a pacemaker in. When you're ticking at 42 beats a minute, probably a good thing she's exactly where she is, getting done what it is they're going to do.

I'm simply glad there's a solution, even if it means there's a 'wait' until surgery gets to happen.

*sigh*

And there's the garage that's a mess.
And a lawn that needs mowed.
And a patio that's screaming to be visited.

Gee.
Decisions decisions.....

Yeah, yeah.
Garage!
FINE!!!!

Saturday Morning

So I'm multi-tasking.

Yeah, well...it's really quiet in this house.
And I can't shampoo carpets. *laughing*
How about I won't shampoo carpets?

But there's a clearing out of the garage that I can do.
And I transferred all those floppies onto a flashdrive so I can now find the study's floor.

I even had a wander around the desktop. Now there's a place I've not bothered to log into for a pretty good chunk of time.
*sigh*
When did that happen?!

Oh.
When I discovered the joys of a laptop!

I'm now rediscovering the joys of a desktop.
This one's got just an itty bitty amount of stuff. *laughing* 19GB used. Since when is that an 'itty bitty' amount?!
Apparently it is on a desktop that's got GB's up the whazoo.

Well then...
Maybe I'd be well served to take stuff from the laptop and move it to the desktop...

Okay, okay--that's just a ploy to avoid the garage.

Right then.
Garage it is!

At the end of every storm is calm.
At the end of every argument is silence.
At the end of one relationship there is another.

Although life is composed of many endings, there are just as many new beginnings.

Just as the day's activities will end, so the evening's activities will begin.
And when those activities are over, there will be new experiences the next day.

Sunshine.

Thanks, Big Guy!

Thought for the Day

When you feel misery, force gratitude.

When you feel deprived, know that there is enough.

When you feel ashamed, reassure yourself that who you are is okay.

When you doubt your timing or your present position in life, assure yourself that all is well; you are right where you're meant to be.
When you ponder the future, tell yourself that it will be good.
When you look back at the past, relinquish regrets.
When you notice problems, affirm there will be a timely solution and a gift from the problem.
When you feel discomfort, know it will pass.

When you think about others, think love.
When you think about yourself, think love too.

Happy Anniversary

Yup--there you have it.

It's our anniversary.

I'm here.
He's there.

Wow......talk about de ja vu'.

I used to say "I'm here, he's there--no fair....."

I can't say that, today.

Still.......

Yeah.....and it's flooded all over the place.
Just the start, mind you.

The ground is saturated so the creeks are flooding like crazy.

De ja vu'.....

I'm sweaty and dirty and tired....... and old.
I think it's safe to officially say--I suck at sandbagging.

♫♪ Happy Anniversary to me.
Happy Anniversary to ME.
♫♪Happy Anniversary.
Happy Anniversary....♫♪
♫♪HAPPY Anniversary to meeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Right......

I need a shower......

OMG what a mess.........

4 inches yesterday--7 inches today......

The ground can't handle that much, that fast.
It's run into the creeks and flooded them.

It's de ja vu'.....

Takin' a 'RAWRRR' moment

Uh huh.....

Have I ever mentioned how much I suck at cooking?
Yeah.....well, I do.
I don't like it. I don't do it well. I don't wanna haffta be bothered......
Actually, I WANT Kentucky Fried Chicken (crispy kind thanks!) take-out --and I want it NOW.

Yup...... RAWR!!

And I don't like this deal with The Brit's mum.
k.....she's lived a very, VERY happy life--she was married to the love of her life for over 50 years and had the time of her life in that relationship.... Doesn't mean I gotta like what's going on for her today.
RAWR!!

And I'm NOT pleased that the last 10 days at work has all been about meetings and stupid trainings. One day---ONE day I was actually AT the unit and saw kiddos......briefly.....before they traipsed off to school......
RAWRRRRRR!!!!!!

I don't even wanna talk about stupid paperwork that I'm behind on as a result of all the stupid meetings and stupid trainings in the past 10 days....
RAWRRRRRR and GRRRRRRRR!!!

And I didn't get to see the bug like I usually do......cuz the girl was at the State Fair.
HELLO?!
Geeze.
Rawr, Rawr, RAWR!!

AND I have a blister on my foot from the stupid shoes I wore to the stupid meeting yesterday.
What's up with that?! I've worn those shoes a bazillion times and not dealt with a blister...
RAWRRRRR!!! Stupid shoes......

Shoe's shouldn't be required anyway. Rawrrrrrr!

And do I know when they pick up the recycle-ables?
NO.
Have I needed to know this in the past six years?
Absolutely not....
Do I need to find out?
RAWRRRRR!!!!!
Fine.
I'll find out.....but I won't like it.....

Did I mention that I really, really, REALLY want some take-out Kentucky Fried Chicken?
I mean REALLY.....
Rawrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

AND I have a stupid appointment with the stupid dietician/nutrionist person who'll pull out that stupid plate with the stupid plastic foods AGAIN......
AND she lets the stupid plastic foods TOUCH.
RAWRRRRRR!!!!!

That's IT.
I'm takin' my little red plate with the little compartments and slappin' it down in front of her.

HA!!!!!

Sleeping with Bread

The examen, based on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius, helps a person hold onto what spiritually nourishes him by looking at what is giving him consolation in his life or causing him desolation.

When did I feel most connected /least connected?

Why is it, in moments of emotional crisis, I grab on to intellect and reason?

"Voice of reason"......I'm continually the "voice of reason"......

Especially with himself.
Especially as of late.....

He's all about the 'feelings' that are attached to the circumstances.
I do understand that.
It's not my method of operation--but I do understand that.

I kick into 'do what needs to be done--fall apart later'.
Truth be told, sometimes I don't even bother to fall apart later.
There's a 'greater plan'...and my G-d is an awesome G-d.

Himself is kinda one of those 'arm flappers' who reacts emotionally.
It's just not how I deal with 'stuff'.
I love him just the way he is.

He's not developed his own relationship with The Big Guy.
It's not that he doesn't honour where I am, and what I embrace.
He does.
He tells me he envies what I have.
I ensure him it's his gift as well.
He's already got it--he just doesn't 'see' it.

I'm familiar with barriers.
I created a whole lot of my own.
It took what it took to get me past those barriers.
It was, and continues to be, worth it.

Still......I become 'the voice of reason'.

It's what he'll hear.
It's simple acceptance of where he's at.

That's true for a lot of folks.

And sometimes, it's where I have to start for me. I switch off, get into 'the voice of reason' mode and take care of whatever needs attended to.

Maybe it's years of working in one crisis after another--helping other's deal in their own crises is what I 'DO'...... Being 'the voice of reason' is a practiced role.

Every once in a while, after the crisis--I get into that 'make that make sense' mode.
I look up, frown and tell The Big Guy......"MAKE that make sense!"
I'm a bit demanding sometimes...... There ain't no 'ask' to it sometimes....

And golly--like all things are going to make 'earthly' sense?

No.....they aren't going to.
I'm privy to just a smidgeon of what's true.
Sometimes He connects the dots for me.
(Lots of times He connects the dots for me......)
Sometimes I get to do the 'wait'.

I don't like that 'wait' jazz.
I absolutely love it when the lightbulb goes on and the dots get connected.
But this 'wait' jazz.....

*sigh*

'The voice of reason' got him there. I get that.
'The voice of reason' got him to remain when he didn't want to remain. He was present when he needed to BE present....I get that.

Now we wait?

Somehow not 'disconnecting' in the wait is getting a bit tricky for me.
You'd think by now I'd know better......

If you're so inclined......

A few prayers being said would be a very good thing.

Himself rang me from England mid-afternoon to let me know his mother had, what appeared to be, three seizures.
He was concerned she'd had a heart attack as well. The paramedics were at the house when he rang--and he told me he'd ring as soon as he could......

That's not happened yet.
And I've rung the house and got the machine....

*sigh*

Prayers are always a very good thing--and please know that they'll be greatly appreciated...by all of us.

Thank you.

Update: First round testing indicates it's a problem with her heart and fainting is the result. They're fairly convinced they're not seizures--there wasn't another stroke (thank you, G-d...)They've admitted her and she's being monitored.
More tests will be done in the morning.

Himself is doing 'okay'--and he's clear she's where she needs to be, and he's where he needs to be....there.

(and I apologized for putting my fingers in my ears and humming to myself yesterday--cuz...)

Thank you for the prayers.
I truly do appreciate them.

I know they do as well.

(((((((((((( everyone ))))))))))))))

Just sayin'.....

68 days and counting!!!!

Ya'll KNOW I'm counting, of course.....

OH!! And someone told me I NEEDED to go to the craft store.

Gee...I suppose I could force myself to do that today.

Sam Cicada

*laughing*

Yup--- Fits!!

It's that time of year again.....lalalalala

I'll be listening to this little fella happily sing. Yeah, well--cicada's generally decide to crawl out of the ground at dusk......this fella was a bit confused.

No worries.
I kept guard so he didn't become someone's mid-afternoon snack.

He climbed into the leaves early this evening.

I'm certain it'll be a lovely tune I'm treated to tonight.

:-)

*putting hands over ears, humming to self*

.......lalalalalalala......

............dum dee dum dee dum dee dum.......lalalalalala......

......lalalalalalala......

*uncovering ears*

The good news is The Brit got to bring The Mum back to her home. She apparently did very well on her trial run with the nurses present--this is a VERY, VERY good thing!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!

However.....We ain't talking the 'coming home' jazz.
We're gonna let her get settled back in, check to see how well she's really getting along......and THEN we'll talk about 'coming home'.

Yes. I understand he 'hates it' there and it's 'no longer home'.
Yes. I understand he misses Seemore and Seeless and sitting on the patio swing.

Yes. I'm sure it's like being a stranger in the home he grew up in.
Yes. I know he's missing the last of summer.
Yes. I know the crickets and cicada's are happening without him.
Yes. I know how badly he just wants to come home from all that stress and chaos and 'stuff'....so he can just 'BE'.

*putting hands over ears, humming to self*

.......lalalalalalala..................

dum dee dum dee dum dee dum.......lalalalalala.....

....... lalalalalalala......

Here and pile, there a pile.......

Last night I sifted through boxes of floppies.

Oy are there a bazillion of 'em.....

Yup. I remember them well.
The camera used to write to floppy disks. I saved all sorts of wonderful things to floppies.

Only none of the computers that we now have operating HAVE floppy disk thingies to actually read 'em.

So....after a brilliant idea, a jaunt to the computery store and some box diving in the storage room I lugged 'em all upstairs and proceeded to make piles in the study....And I mean PILES.

I mean PILES and PILES and PILES of floppies.
Yellow ones.
Red ones.
Green ones.
Purple ones, even.
And black......boring black.... PILES and PILES and PILES of 'em.

They're all sorted by dates. Oh that was a brilliant idea someone had to actually DATE the suckers!

Now it's just about slipping them in and laughing.
Already slipped a couple in......

O
M
G

The good news is--I can destroy all evidence. *laughing*

Sooooo.....about those brownies and cookies.....

Yup.

Sometimes a picture says it all......

I did gain quite a bit of sympathy for the stupid diet.
*laughing*
And all it took was the cookies and brownies.

Oh for crying out loud.....

Yup...I got 3/4's the way through yesterday's training when the trainer put an acronym on the whiteboard.........

(chalk boards are obsolete, apparently......*sigh*)

O
A
R
S

Right.
*sigh*
I know what that stands for.
And that book on the counter--oy geeze.....I have that one.

Yup.
Dangitall........
Been here, done this training before........

So I slid next to my boss--who was at the same training. And I rattled off exactly what the acronym stood for.
Dang.....he accused me of sneaking ahead in the training materials.

Dang........he's the one who sent me to the training in 2001. *laughing*

AH well.....it's a good refresher.
And while it's 'nothing new under the sun', it's pretty basic stuff that'll well serve the three other folks I sent to the same training.

NONE of whom, I can say with certainty, have received this training before!
I know cuz I checked their training lists.

Unlike the boss who failed to check mine.

(I will NOT mention the fact that it fell outta my brain--you can't make me.....)

Joy, oh Joy, OH joy....

Oh joy.....

A training.

Yup.
I get to be 'trained'.

Two days worth, no less.

Yeah, yeah.....the boss is 'catching grief' for not making me stay current in my CEU's. They're required for the "position" I'm in (according to HR). I did offer to take a 'demotion'..... Instead I'm going to the training. You can see how well THAT worked, huh?......

Two days worth of trainings.....
Old stuff taught with new words--I'm just not into it, frankly.
If there's a curriculum for the kiddos, show it to me and I'll be happy to go to that training.

But this 'put the old idea in a new language' jazz makes me crabby. *sigh*

BUT!!!!!!

I have brownies and cookies to take!
That'll make things better......LOL

In what you do, whatever it is, do it with love and joy.
Give your best attitude and expectations to those around you.
Brighten every place you go.

YES thank you......I'd LOVE to and joyously will go to this training!!!!
Still saying the brownies and cookies will make things better........

Sooooo....

One of the gals at work 'gifted' me with these mixes.....both of 'em actually.

Now, I'm not one for a bunch of sweets.
Actually, I'm a fan of salty and crunchy.
Popcorn thrills me to no ends!......

Only....I haven't been able to HAVE popcorn for a chunk of time.
My insides have been trying to 'heal'. *rolling eyes*

Whatever.
I've ate popcorn in the past year. Small amounts, but go figure--I've ate popcorn.

I have not had brownies or cookies--'cept for those gawwwwwwwd awful things himself brought me home. Yeah, well......one bite. I didn't even chew. Out it came into the trash--as did the rest of the box.

So yeah......I got gifted the mixes and SOMEone made the remark that I wouldn't even make 'em.
So. *laughing* I made 'em.

And I'll tote 'em into work tomorrow and share 'em. (cuz I'm certain they're that darn good)

k....actually, I did have a warm cookie and it was pretty darn good!
Yeah, yeah......either I'm desperate after near a year of NO cookies OR.....they're pretty darn good!

The victims at work will let me know which one it is, trust me! ;-)

Wow.
I baked cookies and didn't catch the house on fire.......

The Thief

Things that make me happy

....stealing green apples off the neighbour's trees.

....smelly candles burning in a quiet house.

....the first signs of Halloween in the stores. WoooHooo!!!!

....scarecrows.

....Mr. Dragon chasing his reflection and falling off the vine thingy.

....the humming bird stealing nectar from the butterfly bush.

....freshly shampooed carpets. LOL

....drinking the whole pot of French pressed coffee.

....Toby Toad outhopping the lawn mower.

Fairy Thought

Some moments are easier to accept than others.
To trust the process, to trust all of it, without hanging on to the past or peering too far into the future, requires a great deal of faith.
Surrender to the moment.
If you're feeling angry, get mad.
If you're setting a boundary, dive into that.
If you're grieving, grieve.
Get into it.
Step where instinct leads.
If you're waiting, wait.
If you have a task, throw yourself into the work.
Get into the moment; the moment is right.
We are where we are, and it is okay.
It is right where we're meant to be to get where we're going tomorrow.
And that place will be good.

Sleeping with Bread

It allows someone to express his gratitude to God for the good stuff and turn to him for solace for the bad stuff.

Twelve days.....
For the past twelve days I've experienced something I experienced for years.

Aloneness....

It's been me and the bits of the continuing, amusing world around me.
Seemore and Seeless still scamper around, eating the 'good bits' of Mr. Bunny's corn and burying the rest in the yard. (one more sunshiney day and we'll look like 'Field of Dreams' around this joint) Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal still slip onto the tray feeder and feed the other. Barbie the Pole-Dancing ground squirrel still scurries about shoving food into her little ground squirrely cheeks and runs like mad back to her wee little hole in the ground near the neighbor's shed. (fear of the unseen-for-months cat that lurks, no doubt....)

Life goes on. Things still happen as they've been happening........as they'll continue to happen..
Nothing has changed and everything has changed.

I'm familiar with the aloneness, the solitude...the 'do it yourself' mentality I'd used as my way of life for so many years. I carried it into this shared world once the distance between himself and I was ended. Habitual and comfortable-- I refused to relinquish what worked for years.
Do it yourself, Mel.
Don't start whimping out just cuz there's a 'man around the house'.

*gak!*
Oh gosh.....even puting that in black and white makes me shudder. I've never been one to allow anyone, especially of the male gender, to do for me what I'm perfectly capable of doing myself.
I'll do it myself thankyouverymuch!

And I have.
Having himself around didn't alter that.

People chuckle at the 'role reversal' that seemingly happens in this household.

Yeah....well, thanks--I'll do it myself.
Unless, of course, you wanna do the laundry..
And the cooking?

And you LIKE grocery shopping?! Holy moly....this IS your lucky day!!!!

('Sharing' is required in a partnership they tell me.....)

You mean I can still 'do it myself' AND get out of grocery shopping and cooking and the laundry?!

It don't get much better than that, folks....

And admittedly, I've had it good.
I still have it good. I know I do.

I didn't think the separateness would be an issue.
Really--what have I given up in this partnership? Tasks that I never really liked in the first place? Gee.....what an awful thing to have to give up.
Certainly not the freedom to be all that I am.
Not the decision making, not the freedoms to 'go out and do as you desire to do', not the insanities that I can engage in as I 'work with others'.

We've had our moments.

And it's all been very simple.

"You knew what I was when you picked me up....."

I'm here.
He's there.
He's right where he's suppose to be, doing what he's suppose to be doing.

The aloneness is something else.
It's different than it was when we were doing the distance.
It's not this ever present ache that cuts to the core of me.

It's that moment of searching for the missing tooth the dentist yanked.
It's suppose to be there......I know it's there somewhere--
Oh wait...it's gone....
Shoot.
........Feels funny.......

I'm not 'desolated', my world isn't falling to pieces and I'm not 'non-functional' over this 12 days which will undoubtedly turn into a month if not two....

It just.....
.....Feels funny......

And all the glory to G-d who brought me to 'here'.

Me--the one who hung up all that Mel was about and was designed TO be-- to try to be all that someone else wanted her to be cuz THEN they'd be happy and love her ........maybe, hopefully..... And THEN Mel could be 'good enough'.....maybe......hopefully.....

All the glory to G-d for the teachers who appeared when this stubborn pupil got around to being ready....and for the teachers who took the bludgeonings when the pupil wasn't quite ready.....

All the glory to G-d for being patient and loving....and for letting me swing from one extreme to the other......knowing I'd have to go through I need NO ONE to get to Whoa....I'm already loved madly and passionately EXACTLY AS I AM by G-d...... to get through Gee it's been fun but I don't NEED some person complicating MY life... to arrive at.... I think I might want someone in my life......

All the glory to G-d for helping me discover I didn't have to 'divorce G-d' to be married to a Brit......

The aloneness is do-able.

-1 just........feels funny.......

Fairy Thought

All that is asked of us by our Creator is that we love one another.
Where love doesn't flow easily, perhaps we can just decide to not hurt someone.
If we each avoided hurting all people, for just one day, lives would be transformed.
We'd each see the world with a fresh perspective.

Slobber is good....

....mostly cuz Nana says so. I think the bug is considering teething. Either that, or she's just a slobber/drool fan!

The girl however, does not like the slobber. And she isn't that fond of drool, she tells me (though I'm not certain how one differentiates between the two.....).

*laughing*

Either way.....boy..... is she in for a longgggggggggggg haul.....
