Not Thomas....just sayin'.....

Thomas and his friends.....lalalalalala

TR-ain. TR-aaaiinnnn. Thomas. TR-aaaaiinnnnn!!!!

It was a toss up--himself was slated to have a b'day and it was between the really cool picture book with steam locomotives in it.....or the bug's choice:
Thomas and his friends with noisy buttons and a steering wheel.

I was thinkin' grandad would like the picture book.

I tried to get her to consider the picture book. I kept putting it in front of her and telling her "Look.....really cool pictures of trains that grandad would love, bug."

TR-aaaaaiiiinnnn. Gan-dad. TR-aaainnn......

"Yeahyeah, but LOOK bug--TR-ains in this book."

The clincher was when she shoved the book to the side and starting poking at the Thomas the Train book.

Nonononononoooooooooo....gan-dad......TR-aaaiinnnnn.

Uh huh......yeah, well.....there's a reason I've got:

We're two we're four we're six we're eight
Shunting cars and hauling freight.....lalalalalala STUCK IN MY HEAD!!!!!

O

M

G

Make him QUIT PUSHING THE BUTTONS!!!!!!

More freaking typing.........

Currently my job apparently is to type until I can't stand it any more.

I'm doing okay--at least until I get to that point....
Okay--it's not just 'typing'. I can do that fairly well, fairly quickly. It's putting it in professional wording and being responsible in how I'm presenting the material that's making me nutz.

So--I'm typing along and I have this brainstuckmoment.....and as much as I've trained myself to just let the fingers do the talking I end the paragraph with

.......andblahblahblahblahI'mhavingabrainstuckmoment.......

Nothing really bad. But it's probably something I needed to remove before the boss clicked to read. *laughing*

Ah well.....at least he knows what got in the way of getting more done?

Yeah, well.... I keep going back to the documents.
EVERY night I go back--pretty near impossible to go back when I'm working with kiddos. (yes, I know....MY choice. I could lock myself away in the office... I just don't.....)

EVERY night I whittle away at it.
Every night I'm displeased with the results.

Yeahyeahyeah......I'm critical of me.
I'm also clear what's riding on the contract proposal at this moment in time.

I can't help but shake my head at the content of what I'm putting down. It's true for today. It just won't be true months from now--
That's probably my barrier--I know what's true and I have a tough time putting things together to make it --- vague.

I don't do obscure and vague well.
*sigh*

Yeah yeah......ain't a brainstuckmoment, huh?
Geeze, sometimes I wish I was better at denial.

RAWR.

*laughing*
I seem to keep doing obscure and vague in LOTS of places.
I just don't like it.
Pffffffffffffft. :-P

See that the doubts and limiting beliefs are of no use to you.

Choose to simply and effortlessly let them go, just like that.

ATM = Another Train Moment

TFTD

Many of us have taken either superior or inferior roles with everyone we've dealt with. We ended up with no one who could be our peer or our friend.

True humility occurs when we stop shaming or inflating ourselves and begin accepting ourselves as no worse and no better than anyone else. Then all people are our peers.

Breakfast Line

k.......weekend......

Geeze what a bunch of stressful days.

I know I do it to myself--THAT much I'm clear of.

Yes, things can go wonky (gotta love his terminology sometimes--so much I steal it and misuse it which makes him nutso.......which is much fun, tyvm!). I don't haffta go wonky with 'em.

So--
It's Saturday and there's a stack of stuff waiting for me to become participatory with.
And I'm thinkin' I wanna run away for an adventure--cuz I'm 'entitled' dontchaknow!
Cuz if you had MY week......

Laundry.
Work crap.
Taxes.
Work crap.
Dusting.
Work crap.
Bill paying.
Work crap.
Updating computery stuff.
Work crap.

k.....none of this sounds exciting.....or relaxing--'cept maybe the dusting and that's stretching it..

Right.
So.....Sun's up--day has started.
Guess it's all about what I wanna do with the day I've been gifted. :-D

I love it--gives me every reason in the world to dance and play and create a ruckus!
And I'm all about the ruckus!!!!!

Fairy Reading

Why is it so hard for us to rally to our own behalf? Why can't we see when we are being used, victimized, lied to, manipulated, or otherwise violated? Why is it so difficult for us to stand up for ourselves?

There are times in life when we can walk a gentle, loving path. There are times, however, when we need to stand up for ourselves - when walking the gentle, loving path puts us deeper into the hands of those who could mistreat us.

Some days, the lesson we're to be learning and practicing is one of setting boundaries. Some days, the lesson we're learning is that of fighting for our own rights and ourselves.

Sometimes, the lesson won't stop until we do.

Fairy Dust

Life holds the dangers as well as the rewards. We choose how we will act. Sometimes we may feel trapped in a cycle of fearfulness. If we examine our own part, will we find that we are neglecting to take a balanced view? Perhaps, through a fear of losing, we are missing many chances for satisfaction.

I will remember: I have the power to choose what my attitude will be toward this day's offerings.

Today's Thought

Caretaking: the act of taking responsibility for other people while neglecting responsibility for ourselves. When we instinctively feel responsible for the feelings, thoughts, choices, problems, comfort, and destiny of others, we are caretakers. We may believe, at an unconscious level, that others are responsible for our happiness, just as we're responsible for theirs.

It's a worthy goal to be a considerate, loving, nurturing person. But caretaking is neglecting us to the point of feeling victimized. Caretaking involves caring for others in ways that hamper them in learning to take responsibility for themselves.

Caretaking doesn't work. It hurts other people; it hurts us. People get angry. They feel hurt, used, and victimized. So do we.

The kindest and most generous behavior we can choose is taking responsibility for ourselves - for what we think, feel, want, and need. The most beneficial act we can perform is to be true to ourselves, and let others take responsibility for themselves.

Today, I will pay attention to my actual responsibilities to myself. I will let others do the same.

It's dead, Jim.........

k....mighta grew up around too many Star Trek fans.....

Yes, I killed the laptop yesterday. *sigh*
Yes, I'm on a different laptop today--one that has the graphic's card dying...which is attached to the vital bits and not replaceable. Go figure.
YES, I had a bit of an 'overload' moment over the silly laptop.

No, it's not the end of the world.

I was smart enough to keep photos updated on the external dealy whozit.
I wasn't smart enough to do that with some documents--but I guess I wasn't suppose to keep those. *sigh*

So--down to a dying laptop and a desktop that needs dusted off and updated.
Ummmmm......I mighta turned it on sometime in October, maybe.....briefly......

I'll live.
And I gotta quit with the score keeping jazz.
Cuz if I'm gonna keep score, I need to keep an accurate one--not just a one sided one of 'crappy things that are happening to Mel' list.
What about the 'cool things that are happening to Mel' list?!

k.....that doesn't exist at this moment cuz I AIN'T TRACKING THOSE.

*sigh*
Just another wonderful technique in my repertoire of 'life SUCKS' at this moment in time--SEE!!

Gettin' old, Mel.
GETTIN' OLD.

Excuse me while I go find paper and pen to start a DIFFERENT list.

OH! I can use that cool paper the girl got me!!!!!! :-)

Makin' Waves

ONE MORE THING for the list......

I am not agitated.
I am not agitated.

Stuff happens.

I am NOT in the mood for it to happen NOW.

Omg......I'm 'list keeping'.
I'm keeping track of everything that's NOT going 'my way' and going back to it every time.
EVERY time.

This is a bad plan.
I know this is a bad plan.
Does knowing it keep me from doing it?

Absolutely not.
ABSOLUTELY not.

I could whine.
Hold on.......I am whining.

And not even very well..........

Fairy Reading for the Day

The Chinese say that water is the most powerful element, because it is perfectly nonresistant. It can wear away a rock and sweep all before it.
—Florence Scovel Shinn

Nonresistance, ironically, may be a posture we struggle with. Nonresistance means surrendering the ego absolutely. For many of us, the ego, particularly disguised as false pride, spurred us on to struggle after struggle. "Can't they see I'm right?" we moaned, and our resistance only created more of itself. Conversely, flowing with life, "bubbling" with the ripples, giving up our ego, releases from us an energy that heals the situation - that smoothes the negative vibrations in our path. Peace comes to us.

We will find serenity each time we willingly humble ourselves.

Resistance is more familiar. Nonresistance means growth and peace. I'll try for serenity today.

ohmygoodness.......

When you use tunnel vision you lose perspective.

Gee.....it ain't like you didn't KNOW that. It ain't like this is a new piece of information for you! So when you end up behind in other areas and that comes back to haunt you--'Troubles of your own making'.

YES I KNOW.

I still wanna whine about it.
So.
Now that I spent the last 2 evenings catching up in what I got behind in--I can spend the NEXT two evenings catching up on what my boss wanted me to do before I got behind.....which I'm now behind in because I was catching up what I WAS behind in.

k......this......is INSANE.

No wonder it all feels crazy......

CUZ IT IS.

*end of whine* (for this moment in time....)

Eagle.
REMEMBER Eagle?!

Perspective

Today's Reminder from the Reading Fairy

How many times have you wanted something very badly, only to realize at a later date that having it would have been a major disaster? Often we pursue a certain want or desire when the Universe has something entirely different planned - something, which is for our higher good.

From our earthly vantage point, we can't always see the big picture. We are like mice running in an open field, sensing what is in front of our noses. Only from the perspective of the eagle can the entire landscape be viewed.

Fortunately, there is a part of yourself that can see like the eagle. You can turn over your life and your plans to that higher vision, and then say with assurance, "It's all the Universe's work. It's all in the Universes' hands. And I am at peace with this."

Fairy Wisdom

If we look at the world through suspicious or angry eyes, we'll find a world that mirrors our expectations -- a world where tension will mount, arguments will abound, strife will be present where none need be. However, our experiences in some manner bless us, and we'll recognize that if we look upon them with gratitude. Everything in our path is meant for our good and we'll see the good when our hearts act as the eyes for our minds.

When we see with our hearts, our responses to the turmoil around us, the fighting children, the traffic snarls, the angry lovers, will be soft acceptance. When our hearts guide the action we can accept those things we cannot change, and change those we can. And the heart, as the seat of all wisdom, will always know the difference.

Procrastination 101

I effectively avoided today.
I did.

All that means is I'll be going nutz tomorrow.
I coulda went nutz today?
I chose tomorrow instead.

Actually, I went to church this morning--to participate in a young gal's confirmation.
That was pretty cool.
And then I watched the Packers WIN!

THAT--was beyond cool.

And now......
Yup--procrastinating some more before I get my bubbles and duckies and penguiny guy that zoooooommmmssss around the bathtub.
Wait!!

<-- going to get bubbles, duckies and zoomy penguiny guy!

New Day Promise

NOW is not a good time......

......to stare at the screen and go 'huh......'.

*sigh*

I have the first draft of the contract due on Monday and I'm not even close to having it where it needs to be.
Oh wait....maybe that's why it's called a 'first draft'.

I really wish I could accept that and be done--but alas and alack......

I'M ANAL and I DON'T ACCEPT LESS THAN WHAT I CAN DO.

*sigh*

k......

Coffee.
Maybe some popcorn....

STEP AWAY from the computer screen......

Reading for the Day

Getting mad at someone, a friend perhaps, is normal. Everybody gets mad sometimes. But when we stay mad for very long, it ruins all the fun we'd planned on having throughout the day. Staying mad multiplies. Sometimes it seems we are mad at the dog, our mom, another friend, even the TV.

Forgiving the people we're mad at works like magic. We don't even have to forgive them out loud. We can forgive them in our own minds. The result is the same. Pretty soon the whole day looks bright again. When we're mad, we are the ones who suffer most.

Who can I forgive today, and make my day a better one?

....postcards from a dear friend.

Fairy Reading for the Day

Life offers little if we sit passively in the midst of activity. Involvement is a prerequisite if we are to grow. For our lives' purposes we need enthusiasm; we need enthusiasm in order to greet the day expectantly. When we look toward the day with anticipation, we are open to all the possibilities for action.

We must respond to our possibilities if we are to mature emotionally and grow. Idly observing life from the sidelines guarantees no development beyond our present level. We begin to change once we start living up to our commitment to change- its possibilities and our purpose in that change - and it's that chase of the change, many days over, that moves us beyond the negative, passive outlook of days gone by.

The Lookout Guy

Today's Fairy Thought

Have you ever envied someone else's good fortune? Consider the friend who calls with a different ring to her voice. Instead of sharing her troubles and woes, she proceeds to tell you good news. Something exciting, financially beneficial, glamorous, wonderful beyond belief has happened in her life. It's not a fantasy. It's one of those rare moments when a dream has come true.

That's wonderful, you may say, meaning every word. At first. Why her? You may later think. What about me? When am I going to get a break? As hard as we may try not to feel that way, a little jealousy, envy, and self-pity replace the joy we felt for our friend.

Most of us want other people to be successful and happy. We really do. That's not the problem. The problem comes when we think they're going to be happier or better than we are.

Sometimes we know when we're envying and resenting others. Other times it's a subtle undercurrent that we're not aware of, but it invades our lives. It may only be a slight feeling of smugness when we hear that something unfortunate has happened to someone we perceive as being more fortunate than we are.

Goodwill isn't just the name of a secondhand store or a phrase used in songs during the holiday season. It's a particularly challenging value to practice.

And then......there was the squirrel

This morning....

This morning I heard myself say it to a child:

Your worth and value just IS.
It is not earned or unearned.
YOU are a child of G-d.

I shall endeavour to keep that echoing through my own thoughts during these times:

When people exit my life, angry that they're a victim of circumstances they trusted I could control....that I could not.

When things turn upside down and inside out in this little world that's been so peace-filled and a haven for this soul weary woman.

When I have to look loved ones in the eye and say "I failed you....", because in some aspects I did.

When I things begin their rapid descention into the unknown....

My worth and value just IS.
It is not earned or unearned.
I am a child of G-d.

(gee......you'd think I was having a not so good moment in time or something....)

TFTD

May I understand that giving and receiving are the same. Each is part of each. If I give, I receive the happiness of giving. If I receive, I give someone else that same happiness of giving. I will work on my understanding so that I may give myself – my love and my strengths – generously. May I also receive graciously the love and strength of others' selves.

Yeah well....

Yaknow....I tend to forget where all this 'stuff' comes from that I'm suppose to be experiencing a 'shared writing' adventure with.

It's my passion--I mean, it just is.

So yeah......I whipped out five sections now--four of which the boss tells me are good to go (for the moment anyway....they have to go through his boss yet and that's a whole 'nother story!).
And I collected a bunch of documents for supporting evidence--ran reports and got stuff organized.

I'm feeling better about pulling my part of the load now.

Sheeeeeeshhhh I forget how easy it comes to me when I'm not forcing it and I'm just putting fingers to keyboard and saying what's true about the work we do with kiddos and families.

*laughing*

I'll TRY to remember to take a deep breath and just pretend like I'm putting it out on the weblog. *laughing* WITH a bit more emphasis on grammar and spelling.

But ONLY CUZ IT'S REQUIRED.

Poor grammar and spelling will continue here, tyvm!

Oh.....

*laughing* And silly little abbreviations like that, too!

TFTD

Breaking our own small rules is a luxury that we sometimes forget to indulge. How pleasant it can be to stay in bed late on a Sunday, not get dressed or shaved, to let clutter accumulate. On our days off, we can get a thrill from such "solemn violations" as going to a film in the afternoon, eating an unscheduled treat, jogging twice around the track.

It's probably important to give ourselves these little extravagances, especially if our usual lives involve a highly organized routine. Just breaking up the day differently – reversing daytime and nighttime activities, for example – can give a special flavor to a day off.

Routine is consoling for many of us. We feel good about ourselves as long as we keep to the schedule, obey the rules. But we need to break some rules to get a different kind of good feeling about ourselves; above all, to know that we can choose to return to our former law-abiding selves. Sometimes we fear that if we step out of line once, we'll never get our lives together again. We need to know that we can renew ourselves on a holiday.

Giving myself a holiday by breaking my routine can make it stronger – because I choose to resume it.

Monday, January 17, 2011

And so it goes....

The Boss was trying to be encouraging and a good little cheerleader.

....yeah, well..... No school. All the kiddos--none of the staff. Well, that's not true. The secretary and the cook were there. That was helpful. Reports got sent to the court. Kiddos got fed.

And did Mel get her 'stuff' done?
Ummmm....yeah well....
Not until it was mid-afternoon....and nope, it didn't get done.
Though I did scramble to get some done when I took my arse home in HOPES of getting some things done.

I suck.
And the fact is for whatever reason....I'm not up to the task--I'm a better organizer than I am a contributing writer at this point.

I'm not real pleased about that.
I GOTTA get my head wrapped around this whole ordeal differently.
How.....I do not know. But 'differently' has to happen.
HAS to.

When it all blends together....

Fairy Reading for the Day

We commit to doing the positive things we say we're going to do, regardless of how tiresome, boring, or painful they may be.
When we really don't want to go ahead with it – whatever it may be – we remind ourselves of the commitment we made.
We write it down.
We fulfill our commitment.
In doing so, we affirm that we really can have or do what we say.
We feel better about ourselves, and others find us trustworthy and honorable.
We create integrity.

Weekend wonders

When the outside tap decides to drip--it's not really alarming. Dripping is good.
It's when it ceases to drip that it becomes worrisome.
It ceased to drip.
I worried.

I wasn't real effective in getting himself to worry UNTIL I mentioned that if the line froze, it would be bursting over the train layout. :-/
Yup...we fixed the dripping outside tap.
....IN 10 degree weather.
Mighta been nicer to discover it was dripping in the summer.....

BUT the eagles wouldn't have been hangin' around in the summer--which is what we did once the tap was fixed.
A small adventure, but an adventure nonetheless!
And today I got to visit with the bug.....pigtails and all--well...temporary ones to get the hair outta her face I'm told.
Her mother was ever so glad Nana showed up.
She dusted and vacuumed and did some cooking....

While we played....and read books....and built things and knocked 'em down!

Yup.
I think that's about right.
WAY more funner than working on silly word doc's for work or fixing broken taps in the freezing cold of winter.

:-)

Fairy Dust

It's not always easy to do what is necessary today, but it's impossible to change yesterday or to guarantee what tomorrow will bring. Our life will be better by living each day as it comes instead of regretting the past or anticipating the future.

Treetopper

Uh huh......

I waited for himself to discover the mirror.

He laughed--and then just haddta ask if there was a reason I'd put the little blue tender between the two passenger cars.
"Not that it matters, mind you...."
UH huh.
Any bets on how long it takes him to move the little blue tender car?

*snickering*
Really....he had to ASK if there was a reason?!
*laughing*

(bettin' it won't last the weekend!)

Thought for the Day

Glance back for a moment and you'll clearly see that life is always what you choose to make it, no matter what else might be going on. Now look forward with a renewed determination, and make the choice to live with more meaning and richness than ever before.

In your heart, you know why. With your considerable experience of living, you know how.

Look forward to the opportunity you now have of experiencing life at a new and more fulfilling level. Look forward to being the best you've ever been at being you.

Friday, January 14, 2011

*sigh*

Well then....no saved document. The IT fella is on my list.
And the phone/internet provider temporarily fixed the issue at 3am--12 hours after it broke.
And I experienced three 'blips' when I was working today but was smarter for yesterdays' experience. SAVE--edited or not!

AND--I waded through four sections, which is a good thing.
But I couldn't stand it any longer....soooooooo when I asked the boss what was completed he told me lots, but couldn't tell me what was done/what was undone.......

Yup--HAD to.....I sent the email which was quickly circulated, entitled "Cuz I'm ANAL AND YOU KNOW IT".

LOOKED like a lot was done before I actually put it into black and white--done/not done.

Yeah, well...I'm guessin' some time this weekend will be dedicated to MORE.
At least from this little corner of the planet.....

Darn good thing I work well under pressure.

Hiya Woody!!!!

Fairy Wisdom

Don't worry about getting it done. Just get it done.
Don't complain about what has gone wrong. Just do whatever is necessary to make it right.

Your time and energy are too precious to waste on things that will just bring you down. Instead of bringing yourself down, lift the whole world up.

Decide to live life on positive terms. Choose to spend each priceless moment in the service of what you value the most.

Take everything in stride, and respond with your own positive perspective. Live on the highest level you can envision, and cheerfully encourage everyone else to come along
.

Can you say meltdown?

"I've completed #12, #13 and #19."

Yup.....that's what the email said.
They'd completed three sections and I was still working away on my one....
I stopped working on #9 and went to have a look.

Did I save my work?
No--I was still in the process of editing it.
Do I save work that's in the process of editing? NO.

Is this right about when the program closed on me?
Yup.
And did I make the "Oh no......OH NO......that is NOT even funny." comment?
OH yeah.
Did I scramble trying to get reconnected?
YES.
Did that work?
Nope....not at all......

Did I ring the boss on my cellphone to tell him G-d apparently didn't WANT me working on the assignment cuz we lost the DSL AND all the the phones all in the same full swoop?!
YES.

Did I suggest he not ring me back cuz I'd be in the process of a meltdown?
HELL YES.

O
M
G.......

Is the worksite still without phones and internet?
UH huh.

(I'm gonna hope my favorite IT fella's can salvage SOME of that 3 hours worth of work....ohpleaseohpleaseohplease.......)

Today's Fairy Reminder

Listen to that voice inside. What makes you angry? What have you had enough of? What don't you trust? What doesn't feel right? What can't you stand? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you want? Need? What don't you want and need? What do you like? What would feel good?

Self-care never leads away from our highest good; it leads toward it.

Learn to nurture that voice inside. We can trust ourselves. We can take care of ourselves. We are wiser than we think. Our guide is within, ever present. Listen to, trust, and nurture that guide.

Winter Whites

Kvetching!!!!

I do not care what we have for dinner. Do I LOOK like I care what we have for dinner?!

Cars are stupid. IF you pay good money for gas they simply oughta be thankful and GO in the direction ya point 'em. I pay more to feed the car than I pay to feed two people. AND I DON'T CARE WHAT WE HAVE FOR DINNER. (Let the record show I've made this point sooooooooo many times it's pathetic.)

No--I don't WANT to go to another stupid meeting. Talk about senseless bickering.......O M G

k.....it's simple. Problem, solution. Problem, solution. Do we REALLY need to talk so we can hear ourselves before we land on a solution?! Seriously......

I do NOT like parsnips. I know this serves as a contridiction to "I don't CARE what we have for dinner". Fine. I'll amend it: I don't CARE what we have for dinner AS LONG AS it doesn't include parsnips.

Who SAID someone could take a key home from the worksite and not return it? Oh--that's right....they'll be in three days later and return it then. I forgot. Whatever's convenient for them then..... BRING ME THE FREAKING KEY TODAY. (tyvm)
Oh....wait....you can't find the key....
Right.
I should just replace the lock....
Right.
k....... *sitting on hands* *ahem*

NEXT!!!!!!

There's something about this 'what's in it for ME' mentality that drives me crazy.....seriously crazy.... Oh wait...probably cuz there's nothing in it for ME if it's all about YOUYOUYOU. *sigh*

Do people REALLY think that calling 10 minutes before they're to be at the worksite to tell you they're not coming to work cuz they have a sore toe is 'early notification'?!

Is there a reason I should allow the 'roaming free' dog from across the street to continue to roam free--I mean, seriously.....should I allow this dog to walk 20 feet away from me growling and bristling the hairs on her neck as she just sorta meanders towards home?
Right.
I'll go outside with a castiron skillet in hand.
I can get in one good swing before I'm mauled....... O M G

Come to think of it, I could tote the skillet to work with me, too........

Fairy Thought

Like an old gold-panning prospector, you must resign yourself to digging up a lot of sand from which you will later patiently wash out a few minute particles of gold ore.
—Dorothy Bryant

No one and no thing is good all the time. Let us remember that if we expect nothing but gold, we are distorting life, getting in our own way. We don't want to falsify the texture of our lives; the homespun quality helps us to appreciate the gold when it appears.

I will find some gold among the sand, today.
