The rules
How close are we.......
Right.......so......
Spiders crawling down the downspout
Ghosties saying BOO!!
Studley the 8' spider....he's soooooooo happy
Punkin gang in all its 8' splendor
Ghostie windsock fluttering in the wind.....
Witchy banner
Witch...hangin' around.....LOL
Witch is in/out....
Wreath for garage door front.......completed for the moment
Cemetery......shoot--not out. And neither are the spooky monstery feets or the flashing eyeballs. And the carport has lights but no wreath......and no cute wee ghosties floating.....
And there's only the hat on the front porch.
And there's only 60 treats bagged up to go.
Yikes!
Get up Mel.....UP!!
Where'd I put the wee witchy hats for the wreath? And the black stringy stuff....and the purple lights.
*thinking*
One of the three huge tubs.....or one of the many boxes.....
*thinking*
WAIT! I can have coffee in my Frank mug! :-)
Good call! Coffee WHILE I look for witchy hat lights!!

The 'Try it you might like it' Fairy
There is never any advantage to be gained by being rude.
No one will think more highly of you, no one will be persuaded by rudeness,
and it won’t prove a thing.
The main thing rudeness will do is wrest control of your words
and actions away from you.
Rudeness will cause you to say and to do things that are in no one’s interest.
When you are confronted with the rudeness of another, you have the opportunity to contribute positive value to the situation.
Choose to respond with sincere respect and to show how truly polite you can be.
Being polite and respectful won’t always improve the situation, but it will always leave you with no regrets, knowing that you put your best face forward.
And it will give you a distinct advantage should you happen to encounter the same person again.

I read the news this morning.....
......and I remember why I don't.
My heart is heavy.
It's not that there's one particular event, one particular circumstance, one bit of information passed on to me through words on a screen that stands out.
They all bleed together into the reason I let this bit eek out of the routine I make for myself.
My heart is heavy.
I'm at a loss to put words to it.......
Except that I read the news this morning.
*sigh*

If it takes some time, then take the time.
If it requires some effort, then make the effort.
When you don’t know how, you can learn.
When you require some assistance, ask for it.
If one path is blocked, start looking for another way.
When something knocks you off track, get up quickly and point yourself back in the right direction.
Decide that you will not tolerate any excuses, not from yourself or from anyone else.
Do what it takes to deal with life as it comes, and firmly take control of your own destiny.
Be kind, be polite, be respectful and understanding, all while being your own person.
Spend less time complaining and judging, and more time making a real, positive difference.

A Touch of Colour

....And three days later--brilliant yellows and reds are popping out all over.
I just want to play hooky and go have a wander. The past two days have been wonderful, Indian Summer days.
But alas and alack.
My plate is full and runneth over.....
No playing hooky for me.
I'll steal a moment mid-day to just breathe.....cuz that's the better part of wisdom lately.
And I'll find a dirt road with a patch of the brilliant colours.
*laughing*
That's not playing hooky--that's taking a break!

Freedom and responsibility simply cannot exist apart from each other.
You can be truly free only by being totally responsible for your life and your actions.

One of the most powerful things you can do for yourself is to get past your concerns for yourself and focus on helping others.

Ohboythatsmarted.........
It's humbling to ask someone to come explain something--to SHOW me.....
I'm anal.
Everyone around me knows I'm anal.
They know it's about dotting the 'i's' and crossing the 't's'. I need that kind of order and stability. And as a manager, I expect people rely on me to do that. Wild guess. LOL
Yeah, well........we moved to electronic time keeping. Everything is electronic. *sigh* Yes, I remember saying 'this computer stuff won't last forever?'......yeah, well....it's lasting!!
And I'm self taught on excel worksheets because they're a part of management stuff. No, I didn't ask for help with that one.....the boss just handed those darn worksheets to me and expected me to figure 'em out--or get help.
I have a BIT of an ego problem......I didn't ask for help. That woulda made it look like I didn't KNOW......which I didn't, but that's not the point.
To let it LOOK like it was.......ummmm.....notsomuch, tyvm.....I'll figure it out if it means staying up late at night and digging through every resource I can get my hands on so I can DO what it is that folks are expecting me and relying on me to do.
This time.....I asked for help.
I mean, I REALLY asked for help.
REALLY.
I called the gal and told her I NEEDED help because I wasn't getting the system, I didn't understand the process and I was botching up what was required of me......which would be effecting everyone around me.
I couldn't have that. Wouldn't.
So responsibility won over pride/ego.
As it well should.
*sigh*
It's that darn LETTING THINGS LOOK HOW THEY REALLY ARE jazz....
I HAVE to get past it. WPIML has been on this forEVER.
Pride/ego crap. *sigh*
I don't mind deep end of the pool swimming. I'm GOOD at it.
Ummmmm...... I just prefer to do my flailing and water swallowing in private.
Uh huh.....this IS the problem.
Still.
This time I asked for HELP!
.....and it didn't kill me.
In fact, the gal who came to help me actually THANKED me and was GLAD she could come to help me.
What's up with that?!
Oh....wait......you mean it's NOT all about MEMEME?
*sigh*
Damn.....
LOLOL

QOTW
What was the best part of your weekend?
Well, since I wouldn't say this was THE most joyful, funfilled weekend I've had.....gosh.......
Lemme see......
The best part of this weekend was little bit of 'walk' that I had yesterday--along the river, no less. We've had frost so things are dying back a bit--I knew it'd be less of a jungle to trudge through than usual.
Trees are starting to turn.
Squirrels are happily gathering acorns.
Hickory nuts are falling.
Milkweeds pods are burst open and their fluff is flying around.....
And being able to pull up a seat and watch a kingfisher do his thing.....very cool.
Today's Fairy Reminder
We don't have to do it any better than we can - ever.
Do our best for the moment, and then let it go. If we have to redo it, we can do our best in another moment, later.
We can never do more or better than we are able to do at the moment. We punish ourselves and make ourselves feel crazy by expecting more than our reasonable best for now.
Striving for excellence is a positive quality.
Striving for perfection is self-defeating.

Gone!.....eeshhhh....
There's frost. And it 'feels like' 26 degrees.
I'm pretty sure those two buddleias bushes I transplanted into new pots are thinking that was a mean and cruel joke.
Four pots have gone by the wayside this year--BIG pots, no less.
I'm blaming the wind that's whipped through here.
Nevermind the bushes are several years old and this year they were taller than ever.
We cut them back to 'nothing' every spring--
It's the winds fault.
And this morning there's frost.
And all the pretties on the patio will be glaring at me as they wilt and wither, wondering why I betrayed them.
Or maybe not. Maybe they'll be pleased to wither and go away for the season. I'll have to break it to several of them that it's not just the season they're retiring from...
The patio will start getting bare. *sigh*
Wow.......I'll be able to see the neighbors porch again--I think that's been out of sight since the buddleia's came out from their hiding place in the garage.
But there's frost this morning.
And as much as I want to wrap up in the blanket and be 'one' with the withering and wilting (how appropriate!), there's stuff already planned for the day.
Fine.
Dawdled enough......
I'm late for the a.m. meeting--which means I can dawdle a bit on the road, grab a few photos along the way and resume my regular scheduled program.
I'll take a sweatshirt--there's frost this morning....

Today's Reading
We each create the personal environment that our soul calls home, which means that at any moment we have the power to change our perspective on life, our response to any particular experience and most of all, our feelings about ourselves.
Just as we will find good in others when we decide to look for it, we'll find good in ourselves.

Reading for the Day
If someone has been rude or hurtful to you, it’s natural to feel like being rude and hurtful in return. It’s natural and understandable, but not at all beneficial for anyone.
Rudeness projects weakness and insecurity, while kindness and respect impart confidence and strength. Which qualities would you prefer to communicate to others?
The powerful choice is the choice to be genuinely respectful and authentically kind. The way to move forward is to move beyond petty negativity and one-upmanship.
Though your kindness will not always be returned, it will certainly be noticed. And even if it’s not appreciated by anyone else, your kindness will always inject more positive value into your own life.

x4!! OH mygosh.....
I love when things happen JUST for me. ('course I alwayyyyyyyys think it's about MEMEME..LOL)
But c'mon......
Everyone else seemed able to view the video stream........and everyone else got to comment on it.
I, on the other hand, managed to get to the same piece of the video three times before the little "sorry, charlie.....it's broken, come back later" message popped up. Three times.
On the fourth attempt, after being provide a different link to the same video stream.......
Yup--you guessed it. SAME issue, near the same spot......and yup.......same "sorry charlie" message.
*laughing* Interestingly enough--it's a video on "The Missing Piece". And I got to experience it in a whole different dimension. GO figure.
I truly love how it works.....and being a gal who likes to participate, I made up the piece that was missing based on what I know from my own experience--I can talk my own experience without issue. They're my experiences. I'm pretty clear where they've brought me. And I'm even pretty clear on how it was that I ended up getting to HAVE some of those experiences......LOL
But four times to the same spot on two different links to the same video stream?!
*laughing*
I'm thinking the Big Guy really, really, really wanted me to pay attention.
And "The Missing Piece"?
Apparently about "the law of attraction".
Sadly, I didn't realize it was a 'law'.
This is what I get for limiting my reading sources, I'd guess.
I don't watch the news either.
I wonder if, when there's something ON the news that I'm suppose to be paying attention to, He'll be so kind to drop THAT in my lap four times running. *laughing*
I have a G-d with a VERY warped sense of humour.
So yup.......LOL.......I'm thinkin' He might.

You already have enough challenges to deal with. Don’t let your own thoughts drag you down.
At the center of who you are, there is peace, and it is real.
Connect yourself often with that peace and free yourself to think and to act according to your highest, most authentic values. See the best possibilities, and see how you can lovingly bring them to life.

Left turn, right turn.....
I found it--a bit of peace on a backroad, right as there was a storm building to the north of us.
I just needed OUT.
Noisy neighbor with his weed-eater and lawn mower going.
Noisy neighbor with his saw and drill and hammer going.
Noisy spousal unit who's hyper verbal when he's cut a ceiling tile to the wrong size....LOL
Noisy.....phone going, computers going--everything and everyone was goin'!
So I got goin' too.
Back road.
Turn left, turn right, turn right--go a bit......one more left and put the car in park.
It was just an hour.
He-who-curses-ceiling-tiles didn't even miss me.
I'm pretty convinced the neighbors didn't either.
Quietness.
A slow breeze.
A muted sunset with a flash of lightening here and there.....and nothingness.
Pretty sure it was a good plan to take that hour or so.
Everyone lived as a result!!
MIGHT need to take another hour this evening.........

Fairy Reminder
You’ll rarely gain anything by proving that you’re right. Instead, put your efforts into doing what is right.
If your ego controls every moment of your life, that life will be little more then an empty shell. To fill your life with richness, live with a kind and generous heart.

Thought for the Day
Fear is an obstacle you impose upon yourself. The power of any fear is the power you choose to give it.
And just as surely as you choose to fear, you can choose to move beyond that fear. In an instant you can transform the power of fear into the power of courage.
Fear will grab your attention, and warn you of very real dangers. Fear will heighten your awareness and compel you to be fully prepared, and those are very good and useful things.
But once the fear has done its job, your job is to move forward. Let the fear prepare you, and then quickly do what you have prepared to do.

Things that make me happy....
....a stray leaf floating to the ground.
....a brief pet with Lucy, the neighbor puppy, when she passes on her walk with her human.
....gluten free onion rings.....omgosh.....yumm!
....MORE orange lights in the dining room.
....another blooming magic white powder, stolen plant!
....stuff being tossed out--cuz there's toooooo much stuff in this wee house.

What do you have on your bed?
Sheets?
Quilt.
Pillows!
More pillows.....
And yet MORE pillows.
And stuffies--stuffed in the headboard for attacking purposes at any hour. Or in case I get bored...
And yes, they all have names.
Ummm....
Oh, and an extra fuzzy blankie--cuz the nights are cooling off around here.

The Wordy Fairy
It's okay to take care of ourselves on the job. It is not only okay - it is necessary.
Taking care of ourselves on the job means we deal with feelings appropriately; we take responsibility for ourselves. We detach, when detachment is called for. We set boundaries, when we need to do that.
We negotiate conflicts; we try to separate our issues from the other person's issues, and we don't expect perfection from others or ourselves.
We let go of our need to control that which we cannot control. Instead, we strive for peace and manageability, owning our power to be who we are and to take care of ourselves.
We do not tolerate abuse, nor do we abuse or mistreat anyone else. We work at letting go of our fear and developing appropriate confidence. We try to learn from our mistakes, but we forgive ourselves when we make them.
We try to not set ourselves up by taking jobs that couldn't possibly work out, or jobs that aren't right for us. If we find ourselves in one of those circumstances, we address the issue responsibly.
We figure out what our responsibilities are, and we generally stick to those, unless another agreement is made. We leave room for great days, and not so great days.
We are gentle and loving with people whenever possible, but we are assertive and firm when that is called for. We accept our strengths and build on them. We accept our weaknesses and limitations, including the limitations of our power.
We strive to stop trying to control and change what is not our business to change. We focus on what is our responsibility and what we can change.
We set reasonable goals. We take ourselves into account. We strive for balance.
Sometimes, we give ourselves a good gripe session to let it all out, but we do that appropriately, in a way meant to take care of ourselves and release our feelings, not to sabotage ourselves. We strive to avoid malicious gossip and other self-defeating behaviors.
We avoid competition; strive for cooperation and a loving spirit. We understand that we may like some people we work with and dislike others, but strive to find harmony and balance with everyone. We do not deny how we feel about a certain person, but we strive to maintain good working relationships wherever possible.
When we don't know, we say we don't know. When we need help, we ask for it directly. When panic sets in, we address the panic as a separate issue and try not to let our work and behavior be controlled by panic.
We strive to take responsible care of ourselves by appropriately asking for what we need at work, while not neglecting ourselves.
If we are part of a team, we strive for healthy teamwork as an opportunity to learn how to work in cooperation with others.
If something gets or feels crazy, if we find ourselves working with a person who is addicted or has some kind of dysfunction that is troublesome, we do not make ourselves crazier by denying the problem. We accept it and strive in peace to figure out what we need to do to take care of ourselves.
We let go of our need to be martyrs or rescuers at work. We know we do not have to stay in situations that make us miserable. Instead of sabotaging a system or ourselves, we plan a positive solution, understanding we need to take responsibility for ourselves along the way.
We remove ourselves as victims, and we work at believing we deserve the best. We practice acceptance, gratitude, and faith.
One day at a time, we strive to enjoy what is good, solve the problems that are ours to solve, and give the gift of ourselves at work.

Name that machine....
Whoda knew......
.......That 'get in the Jeep and go' adventure was an all day affair yesterday.......which is just as well.
Today was spent loading up ceiling tiles and floor tiles and stuff for the basement bathroom/laundry room area......which is finally put back together after identifying and correcting a water problem that's not been identifiable for a chunk of time. *sigh* Why does anything having to do with plumbing so darn expensive? Just sayin'...... Whining actually.....
So stuff got purchased and lugged in, lawn got mowed, the exhaust vent got torn apart and cleaned, yard trimmed, flowers dead-headed, lights for the coffee nook got re-made and hung (we're all orange! Woohooo!!), bits of Halloween decorations got put out, coffee pot got cleaned, dinner got made and birdies got fed.....oh, and the stupid cats I'm cat sitting got fed TWICE....the boogers..... Vacuuming happened....laundry is almost done..... Almost...
And boy am I glad we did our adventuring the day before! LOL
We saw pelicans, herons, mudcranes, froggies, lily pads, eagles, a huge windmill, BIG honking potato pickery machines (yes, that's the above photo--who'da knew we grew potatoes in quantity around these parts....), quiltbarns, antique soda bottles, trains...twice..., butterflies, weird grasshoppery guys and--holy cow we saw the Mississippi....great backwaters and very cool swampy bits!
Today--I worked like a mad woman.
NOT my plan.......but there ya have it. Maybe that'll mean tomorrow is a schluff day!
Right.
That's only if I get the laundry done, the garage straightened up (plumbery guys are messy!) and the mess that's suppose to be the livingroom put back into some sort of order.
I can do that!
Easy peasy......before bed happens even!
Maybe.
Nah.
Coffee and a moment of reclining on the couch sounds MUCH more inviting!
:-)
Thought for Today
Live is rich and full. Your life. My life.
Even when the day feels flat or hollow, there's a richness to it that escapes our attention.
We see only what we choose to see.
We hear selectively, too.
Our prejudgment precludes our getting the full effects of any experience.
Some days we hear only the drum of the humdrum. We can see life as a concert in progress when we transcend our own narrow scope and appreciate the variety of people and situations all directed toward the same finale.
The more we're in tune with the spiritual activity surrounding us; the more harmoniously we will be able to perform our parts.
I will listen to the music of today. I will get in tune, in rhythm. I am needed for the concert's beauty.

Right....it's Friday......
.......and I have a 'day off'.
Was I up at 4am?
Uh huh.
Did I watch sunrise like any other day of the week?
Uh huh.
Was I dressed and ready for the day by 6am?
Yup.
Do I really NEED to be in a skirt?
.....yeah.....notsomuch......
Wow.
It's cool out--maybe I'll find a pair of Levi's that aren't 'falling off my body' material and don those!
Yup......I'm thinking ADVENTURE!
Heck if I know what or where.
But I'm thinking ADVENTURE!!
And then I'm thinking.......8' spider!
k....
Adventure AND THEN 8' spider!
I have the weekend--there's time enough for both! :-)

Fairy Thought
As we practice healthy detachment with the people in our life, we slowly begin to learn the truth. Detaching, preferably detaching with love, is a relationship behavior that works.
We learn something else too. Detachment - letting go of our need to control people - enhances all our relationships. It opens the door to the best possible outcome. It reduces our frustration level, and frees us and others to live in peace and harmony.
Detachment means we care, about others and ourselves. It frees us to make the best possible decisions. It enables us to set the boundaries we need to set with people. It allows us to have our feelings, to stop reacting and initiate a positive course of action. It encourages others to do the same.

Wait...... I have tomorrow 'off'.
There's a bizarre concept.
I worked the most recent holiday--'stuff' was going on and there was just no way I could not work. That's just the glory of being the one in charge--you get to make executive decisions like that.
But I have a boss who also made an executive decision.....I'm pretty clear he can do that.
He and I still haven't come to an agreement on who's really in charge......yet...
So. I did self report about working the holiday.
He did tell me he expected me to then take another day off in turn.
And apparently mentioned it to one of the supervisors--who emailed my boss and cc'ed me--to let me know that I would be taking this Friday as that holiday day.
*scratching head* I'm not exactly sure how that happened...but it happened.
And I have tomorrow 'off'.
WHAT I'm going to do with tomorrow, I have no clue.......
I'm sure I'll figure that out.....tomorrow......
I don't deal well with people changing my agendas.
THERE'S a news flash.
And I still have tomorrow 'off'.........
ONE of us is going to come to an understanding of who's REALLY in charge--and I'm afraid I'm about to discover that it ain't me.......
.....k.....LOL........that's kinda sucky......LOL

Today's Reading from the Reading Fairy
If today offers us a challenge, we can be grateful. Our challenges are gifts. They mean we are ready to move ahead to new awarenesses, to a new sense of our being. Challenges force us to think creatively; they force us to turn to others; they demand that we change. Without challenges, we'd stagnate, enjoying life little, offering life nothing.
We each are making a special contribution, one that only we can make; each time we confront a new situation with courage. Each time we dare to open a new door. What we need to do today is to close the door on yesterday. Then we can stand ready and willing to go forward.
This day awaits my full presence. I will be the recipient of its gifts.

The word
Reverence:
rev·er·ence [rev-er-uhns, rev-ruhns]
noun, verb
1. a feeling or attitude of deep respect tinged with awe; veneration.
I've been trying. Sometimes in a focused and deliberate way......and then something happens that I let dictate my focus.
The good news is perseverance is something I've become really comfortable with.
I know how to get back on the horse.
*sigh* Granted, some days it's easier than others.
I need to remember that it's easier when I stand on the hill and just shush-up and watch.

Today I will feel. I will feel wind and water, earth and sun. I will feel rain, the taste of it, and the soft sting of its coolness. I will feel the familiar touch of my shirt against my skin, my hair across my face in the wind.
Today I will feel love like a candle on a birthday cake that never goes out - no matter how much you blow on it. I will feel compassion like a toothache, a dull pain that lets me go about my business but never goes away. I will feel joy and sorrow, pain, and pleasure. Today I will feel. I will feel like a human being, unique as a snowflake, common as grass.

Half Mast
It's sunset.
This morning was somber.
This evening.......somber again.
It's a day of memories--none of they joyous.
But a day of memories nonetheless.
The Federal Buildings, the banks....the schools.
And on this wee street--us.
I haven't forgotten.
NBC apparently couldn't be bothered today--
I could.
We could.
I'll take another moment as the sun sets.....because I can.
Because it's right for me......

Right now is when you can turn life around. Right now is when you have the power to choose your attitude, your actions, and the outcomes you create.
The most important part of your life begins right now.
Because this is the part you can do something about.
