Odd duck out.....

Sometimes you're just the blue duck. NOT quite a part of the crowd, kwim?

Yeah, well, I've always been sort of the blue duck.
Not that I mind--loads of times I aspire to be the voice of opposition.....ummm....that probably oughta be 'the voice of reason'----but it's not.

I like presenting a different perception.
(that's a 'reframe' for 'being oppositional'--feel free to steal it!)

I enjoy challenging how things are being looked at.....and sometimes that gets me falloniously labled. *shrugs* Simply words. I don't give people's opinions of me a whole lot of weight--until I decide their opinion matters. (which I'll decide, on occasion)

The Brit says I'm 'horribly tolerant'.
I say I'm simply challenging perceptions.

Perhaps their car didn't come with a left turn signal.
You don't know how her morning went--she probably had to put her puppy to sleep before she came to work.......ooohhhh.........
Poor fella's racing to the hospital--his wife is having twins yaknow!

Now, mind you, those are the mild challenges to perception.
It's the bigger ones that earn me the blue duck....though I'm almost certain those little ones add to the perception of the world around me.

I don't think I'm 'horribly tolerant'.
I think I'm peacefully accepting.

LOL See--another oppositional reframe.
I won't even agree when I agree!

Fortunately [psycho]analysis is not the only way to resolve inner conflicts. Life itself still remains a very effective therapist.--Karen Horney

The passage of time, coupled with an openness to the messages gleaned from our conversations with others, can provide answers we need for the way out of painful situations.
Life is ebb and flow, peaks and valleys, struggles and sweet times.
What we fail to realize, all too often, is that the struggles make possible the times that are sweet.

Our conflicts are our special lessons in life.
We can learn to flow with them, move through them, trust their value to us as growing, changing people.
How good it feels to have found security with one another and that power greater than ourselves who can, when we are willing, show us the path to resolution.

Life will never be free of conflict--nor should it be. Our lessons move us to higher planes of awareness.
We can experience the joy hidden within the conflict.
We can help one another remember that the sweetness of a moment is tied to the pain of a former, forgotten moment. All events, all experiences, are connected.

The path we travel, alone and with others, is bringing us brighter days.
Trust your path.
It's exactly as it should be.

Fluffering.....

This is what it looked like at 12:30 this afternoon.
Not only did it dump snow like mad, it blew like crazy.
I managed to pull over and make a call or two, trying to decide if I wanted to turn around or continue on.
I continued on.
What WAS I thinking?!?!

Even if *I* was feeling particularly brave that doesn't mean the rest of the world was going to be brave with me!

This I oughta remember, dontcha think?
More than once I've made the journey only to have the folks who are trained to torture me decide they need to go home.
Yeah, well....several opted to go home.
I'm sure it was nothing personal.

I did manage to get a few tests done though.
And joy of joys that the mammogram person remained!
*rolling eyes* I'll spare details.
But I want credit for saying 'yes thank you, I think I'd like to do that.....'

I will say that the receptionist was extremely apologetic. I think she was embarassed that I'd driven an hour to get there and folks who lived 30 minutes away vacated early.
*shrugs*
Heck, I'd thought about not showing up--I can understand why they'd question if they ought to remain.

Ah well, getting it all taken care of in pieces isn't unfamiliar.
I used to deliberately do that. LOL
Somehow it's more 'fun' to break it up when you're the one doing the breaking up?

BOY is it windy out there-- the snow's fluffering around all over the place!!

:-)

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.-- Seneca

My sister's garden.....

No, really....this is a photo of my sister's garden.

She's just a loving creature.
Plain and simple.
I'd be envious if I wasn't so darn grateful......not of the garden--but of the 'garden' that IS my sister.

She's always been the direct opposite of me.
Never drank.
Never abused drugs.
Never even liked taking asprin.

Never engaged in illegal behaviors.
Doesn't swear like a sailor.
Doesn't lie cheat OR steal.

She's simply a kind soul.

She moved from the house when I was fairly young.
When our mother died she assumed the role of 'caretaker'. I vaguely remember the day she decided she would move on--she'd broken out in shingles and wept unceasingly.

From there, I don't know where it went.
I just know she went to live with an older brother and I remained with the alcoholic father.

Noone could forsee good things happening if any of us remained with my father.
No one blamed my sister for moving on....not even me.

Frankly, I don't remember being sad for her leaving. Perhaps I was too busy fighting to remain.....
And my memories of growing up are pieced together by other's stories smattered with fragmented visions of what was.
I'd like to believe I was sad.
Hanging on to her in the distance is probably evidence that I was.

She cultivates such love.
She just does....

I couldn't 'want' and not have her offer to make it happen.

There's a room in her house that's just for me.
The walls hold forsakened childhood games.
Old toys blended with beach treasures and wooden blocks--fluffy homemade quilts and bears with tails--it's "sis's room".

Walks on the beach at sunrise.
Promises of growing old together ....
A bench claimed just for us.

And giggles.
Lots of giggles.

And lots of hugs--ones you never feel silly for receiving OR giving....

She's the epitome of loving.

She's got quite the garden.
And I'm so grateful for every chance I get to peek into it.....

Today's Reading Fairy--

Often, one of our biggest questions is "What's going to happen?"
We may ask this about our relationships, our career, our recovery, and our life.

It is easy to tangle ourselves up in worrisome thoughts.
Worrying about what's going to happen blocks us from functioning effectively today.
It keeps us from doing our best now.
It blocks us from learning and mastering today's lessons.

Staying in the now, doing our best, and participating fully today are all we need to do to assure ourselves that what's going to happen tomorrow will be for the best.
Worrying about what's going to happen is a negative contribution to our future.
Living in the here and now is ultimately the best thing we can do, not only for today, but also for tomorrow.
It helps our relationships, our career, our recovery, and our life.

Things will work out, if we let them.
If we must focus on the future other than to plan, all we need to do is affirm that it will be good.

Sloth

Okay. I admit it.
I was getting a tad worked up over the 'sloth' thing.

Stupid quiz.....
So I was 'morally okay' with the sleeping til noon!!
Geeze, what if a person works til three in the morning?!

Pfffffffffffttttttttttt.
Stupid quiz.....

NOT that I sleep til noon.
Oy geeze......if I was in bed that late--the ambulance would get called.
More likely the undertaker.

*grumbling*
I'm not slothful....
I can have a lazy streak with the best of 'em, but c'mon!!

Soooo.....

I whined and asked the Brit.
What WAS I thinking?!!

He reminded me of Sid the Sloth who has sleeping habits very close to mine.
Flip flop, toss turn, wriggle squiggle, sigh, sit up lay down -- do it all over again.

Yeah, yeah.......that might be true--but am I LAZY?!

"Only when it comes to the English language, dear...."

Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!

A Thought Worth Saving

There are two types of people--those who come into a room and say, 'Well, here I am!' and those who come in and say, 'Ah, there you are.'
-- Frederick L Collins

QOTW 1/27

Define 'kindness'.

Right....
Easy, peasy!

The act of 'getting out of myself' to do for another.
Well.....sorta...... I suppose I oughta tag on the words 'right actions', too.

Maybe it's 'getting out of myself' to do right actions towards another?

Okay.
Maybe not 'easy peasy'.......but it's the best I'm apparently gonna do at this given moment in time.

Kindness: The state of being kind. LOL How's THAT? :-P

Whoa.............

Greed:Very Low
Gluttony:Very Low
Wrath:Very Low
Sloth:Medium
Envy:Very Low
Lust:Very Low
Pride:Very Low

Seven Deadly Sins--
Okay. I admit I was curious.
I took the quiz.

I wasn't sure I wanted to know....LOL....... But I hit 'tally' just the same.

I guess it could be worse?
Oh, lemme say that differently.....I KNOW it coulda been worse and WAS.

Wow.........

I oughta print a copy for wisepersoninmylife!
YEAH!!!!

*hitting print button*

I'm fixed!!!!! Wooooooohoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

Fluffy cloud

Himself decided to paint the sky last night.
Literally.
We picked out a 'sky blue' for the train layout and he's painting the sky.

And apparently there's 'apposedtobe clouds--and do I wanna help him with the clouds?

*nodding happily and retrieving the cotton balls*

"What are those for?"
Clouds!!! :-)

"Oh, I see. They'll do. We'll dab the paint on with them."

*frowning* Paint?

"You weren't considering simply putting them on the board, were you?"

*tearing apart cotton ball enthusiastically* LOOK!! FLUFFY cloud!!

"Why don't you make us a good cup of coffee?"

*frowning* The buildings are stickey-outty....why can't we can have stickey-outty clouds!?!

"Coffee? We were going to have coffee and you were going to make it?"

*frowning*
I'm thinkin' it was a diversion tactic.
I'm pretty sure he didn't stick my cloud on the layout.
Now, granted, I DID get a cuppa coffee outta the deal.....but I had to make it myself.

And my little cloud somehow disappeared.

HE says clouds do that....that clouds 'dissipate'.
*frowning*

I'll have you know I've sat here with a shredded cotton ball for over an hour and it's STILL HERE.

I think he lied.

Day is done, gone the sun.....

Sleeping With Bread

For what am I most grateful? Least grateful?

Most grateful? (oh dear LORD--again with the 'most'...LOL)

I've had a whole lot of reminders this week--some painful, some joyous--about what's truly important.
It's not the 'stuff'.
It's not the glitz.
It's not recognition.
It's not people, places or things.
It's certainly not animal, vegetable or mineral.

I have that deep abiding sense of gratitude that I 'get' the priviledge to do some things with some folks today.
I get to touch lives in ways I well and truly never believed I'd be allowed to.

I get to love people--regardless of where their feet have been, regardless of what they're doing or saying.......regardless of what they're not doing or not saying. I simply get to love them exactly as they are.
And I get to see people differently than I've ever seen them--not better than or worse than. Oddly enough--that gets different again and again and again....

Just another human making their way through their own lessons, ya know?

I like that some awesome teachers got my attention.....And they came in the most unlikely places.

What an awesome thing!

Least grateful?

*sigh*
That'd be that arrogant moment in time when I decided I simply needed to try harder and work smarter to get someone to do what I wanted them to do.
Ungrateful snot that I am--did I even think that they were dancing as fast as they could at that moment in time?
Nope.
Can I help people be accountable without 'making' them do what I want them to do? Yep......I know how to motivate versus dictate.
I dictated.

*whapping self*
What WAS I thinking?!!

Most vs. Some

Ya know, at dinner the Brit remarked that I hadn't ate all my bread. Nope--but I did eat 'most' of it. He argued--it was near half the piece that I tossed out.

Did I throw 'most of it' away?
"No........"

Then I ate 'most of it'.
"No. You threw a good piece of it out. You didn't eat much.

But I ate 'most of it'.
"You ate 'some of it'."

...'cuse me, but I tossed 'some of it'.....MOST of it I ate!
(btw--I'm gonna win this one..LOL)

So far this evening I've drank 'most' of my coffee. I've done 'most' of the dishes. AND I carried up 'some' of the laundry--leaving 'most' of it for him since he's concerned about my back 'some'.

*shaking head*

You can almost tell what kinda weekend this is gonna be, huh? LOL

The teacher appeared

Forgive me for sounding a bit---strange.
But it would seem that I'm having a thought or two. LOL

Wisepersoninmylife tells me all the time "You just run it til the wheels fall off, Mel........."
And run it, I do.
I convince myself that I know 'what's best for me'.
I believe the lies that I tell myself.
I start grabbing that 'control' that I somehow delude myself into believing I have.
I run myself ragged trying to manage other people, circumstances and 'things'.
Ya know, the old 'if you do A, you'll get B'. If you just work harder, smarter, longer--- *sigh* Good grief......will I ever KEEP the lesson?

Every time........something, somewhere gets my attention. And once again I'm reminded of who's 'large and in charge'.

And I remember, once again, that 'control' is simply a illusion....that there's a plan for this life of mine.....
And what a gift that I get to be here to be of maximum service to G-d and others. And I stand in awe that I 'get' to--cuz there was a time that I had little to nothing to offer another human being. And service to G-d?!

Ya know....
I've had a love affair going on with the G-d of my understanding for more than a few 24 hours now.
(That's the best way for me to describe it. Not that it's free of spitfire moments when I'm grumbling in His direction. We have those--trust me when I say we do.)
But I worried that love affair would be somehow compromised when I said "I will" to the Brit.
I worried that he, a limited believer(at best), wouldn't endorse (let alone tolerate) what I needed to be doing IN that relationship with G-d and others.

I couldn't have been more wrong........

The wheels fell off a whole lot of 24 hours ago when I decided to chase the relationship.

But that doesn't stop me from getting in my own way on occasion.
That doesn't prevent me from having to backtrack and eat a bit of crow now and then.

I guess that's awfully 'human' of me, huh?

I can't say that I like DOING that--but there's obviously a part of me that still gets something from grabbing it back now and again, huh? Elsewise I wouldn't BE grabbing it back.

But when the student's ready, the teacher appears--every time...even if just for a refresher on the lesson at hand.

Can I admit that I'm glad it happens that way?
Cuz I am.
Extremely glad......
And I'm ending my day grateful.......

Another cuppa, please......

I have a new theory.

It's called 'beat the clock'.

Okay........maybe that's not so original OR new--but I'm liking it for the most part.

CAN you get your pot of coffee done before that 'BEEP BEEP BEEP' happens?
*nodding*
So far, so good!

Until it gets to the second pot.......

And JUST to circumvent comments FROM the peanut gallery about that second pot of coffee--Yahoo had an article I'd care to share.....(course we all know Yahoo IS a reliable research source!)

http://health.yahoo.com/news/171053 (I've rationalized that it's good for the twisted crappy muscles in my back thanks to that slickery parking lot!)
AND---I'm smarter for drinking it!
HA!!
http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/scp_v3/viewer/index.php?pid=16598&rn=49750&cl=1739319&ch=49799&src=news
(boy I sure hope that works..if not, I obviously need a third pot of coffee....LOL)

ONE MORE TIME.....*sigh*

Muddy water, let stand, becomes clear. --Lao-tzu

A group of friends went swimming one day and one of them lost a ring in the bottom of the lake. Everyone started diving from different directions to find it until there was so much mud and sand stirred up that no one could see anything.
Finally, they decided to clear the water.
They waited silently on the edge of the shore for the mud from all their activity to settle.
When it finally cleared, one person dove in slowly and picked up the ring.

When we are confused about something in our lives, we will often hear answers and advice from all directions.
Our friends will tell us one thing and our families another, until we feel pretty well mixed up.
If we look away from our problem and let patience and time do their work, the mud inside us will settle and clear.
Our answer will become visible, like the glimmer of silver in the water.

Am I overlooking the simple solution?

The fairy conspiracy...

"When the pupil is ready, the teacher appears."

Life's lessons often come unexpectedly.

They come, nevertheless, and they come according to a timeframe not of our own.
As we grow emotionally and spiritually, we are readied for further lessons for which teachers will appear.

Perhaps the teacher will be a loving relationship, a difficult loss, or a truant child.
The time of learning is seldom free from pain and questioning.
But from these experiences and what they can teach us, we are ready to learn.
As we are ready, they come.
We all enjoy the easy times when the sailing is smooth, when all is well, when we are feeling no pain.
And these periods serve a purpose.

They shore us up for the lessons which carry us to a stronger and different way of life, to a stronger sense of ourselves.
To understand that all is well, throughout the learning process, is the basic lesson we need to learn.

All is well.

Repeat after me.....

Disappointment and Frustration

Many of us, whether we are conscious of it or not, create much of the unhappiness we experience.
Our disappointments are the result of our own negative or limited thoughts about ourselves and our world.
What are some of those limiting thoughts, those subconscious beliefs, which keep us from experiencing joy and wholeness?

One of those beliefs is that we cannot be fulfilled unless we are loved and accepted by those who are the victims of our past experiences, that we are too old or too set in our ways to change.
Still another false idea is, "It's a catastrophe if things don't go my way!"
Then, too, there's the self-defeating attitude that to love is to lose, so I'd better prepare for the worst to happen because it will.
Two more irrational beliefs are, I have no control over my happiness and I want life to be easy and without hassles; therefore, I'll avoid discomfort or any new commitments.

TODAY I will see each disappointment in my life as a challenge to discover the negative or limited beliefs which keep me from seeing myself as a person of unlimited resources and potential.

Repeat after me:

I am a person of unlimited resources and potential.
I am a person of unlimited resources and potential.
I am a person of unlimited resources and potential.....(and I'm gonna use those unlimited resources and potential!!)
*snickering*

Please note I didn't say for WHAT.

Hmmmmmmm

It is not our duty to suffer over what will be or won't be -- to live with painful regret or guilt over what was or wasn't.

Our soul task is to be responsible for what is -- and to allow this relationship with life to produce what it will.
There may or may not be suffering in this order of responsibility but, if there is, it will be transformational as opposed to self-tormenting --

Take a number, stand in line.....

Yeah, well, I didn't 'hurt' until about 8:30 this evening. G'head--but I wantcha to know it's all about 'take a number and stand in line' for the lecturing.
I've gotten it from several places already--and I'm sure a few more will have a go at me.

YES I know I shoulda bothered to 'fill out' an injury report when it happened.
I was busy--too dang much to take care of to be bothered with some piece of paper. I was due back at the unit! *mumbling*

YES I know I shoulda done something like rang the physician--but c'mon, it's not like I landed particularly hard. I just......twisted funny. I didn't even technically 'fall'......more like 'slid' and caught myself via the car door....and twisted weird when I managed to quit sliding.

NO, I didn't have any witnesses. Thank G-D!! I looked around AFRAID someone had seen that slide on the ice. I'm pretty convinced it wasn't very graceful lookin'.

Hey....I made it into the building with that box (YES, I know I shouldn't have been lugging a box of contact notes that probably weighs in at 40 pounds--but I didn't slip with the box.......this was a very good thing cuz THAT woulda been one huge mess...... And just so ya know--40 pounds is NOT over the limit of 'lifting' the doc set for me, thanksverymuch!).

*sigh*

The bath was a good solution--and the heating pad is awesome cuz it's HUGE!
And I'll take that stupid muscle relaxer stuff before I climb into bed.

*grumbling*
It's not the climing INTO bed that I'm concerned about....it's the rolling OUT that could be questionable.

Gotta love snow........
But those icy parking lots--that's a whole 'nother thing.

It makes GREAT coffee!!!!!!!!

That wonderful coffee pot--ya know the one himself broke and we replaced over the weekend?

It makes GREAT coffee.....

And it beeps.
Did I mention that the coffee pot beeps?
It does.....five times when the coffee's brewed, three times when it's about to shut itself off cuz it's been sitting there for two hours and it thinks you really don't wanna drink coffee that's been hangin' around for two hours. Apparently it says so on the box.
Who freaking reads the box?!!!

Now, this isn't an all bad thing.....this beeping function.....
'Cept you probably oughta be TOLD the pot beeps, dontchathink? 'Specially if you don't read the box and just look at the pictures.....which is how I operate........
Otherwise you end up looking stupid.....which I did.......

'Specially when it's YOU who's going through the coat closet, looking for that watch that you KNOW has to be stuck in some coat pocket, beeping cuz the alarm's been set. *rolling eyes*

Which is exactly where himself found me this morning..........looking for some nonexistant digital watch.

"What ARE you doing?"

Looking for the watch.

"What watch?"

The one that keeps going off in the morning. The darn thing went off yesterday--and again this morning. Didn't you hear it?

"No dear. I didn't hear a watch going off. I DID hear the coffee pot though......"

Yeah, yeah..........it's a burp and puke kinda pot--but it makes GREAT coffee!!

*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

(This is when I straightened up, pulled my head from the coat closet, and glared at the firstthinginthemorning coffee pot.)

"Your coffee pot will be turning itself off now, dear."

....bite me...........

Wow.........

Little girl, little girl, where have you been? --Mother Goose

She's been everywhere and nowhere in and around the house.
She's been in her room crying with her doll, on the grass kicking her ball, on the floor big-eyed and blank in front of the TV.
Her things are everywhere in the way, as if left there to block the path.
She learns to be happiest alone in her room.
There she can gather roses to give to the Queen and receive in return a diamond as big as a shoe.
There she can wait for some prince, or dream of crossing the street without looking back.

Never cease to dream, to play, to live.....

*muttering about lack of reading fairy pictures*

Sometimes, problems and feelings linger for a while.

These times are temporary.

Times of confusion, uncertainty, times of living with a particular unsolved problem do not last forever.
We make these times doubly hard by comparing them to our past.
Each situation and circumstance has had its particular influence in shaping who we are.

We do not have to scare ourselves by comparing our present and future to a painful past, especially our past before we began doing things differently or before we learned through a particular experience.

Know that the discomfort will not be permanent.
Do not try to figure out how you shall feel or when you shall feel differently.

Instead, trust.
Accept today, but do not be limited by it.
A new energy is coming.
A new feeling is on the way.

We cannot predict how it will be by looking at how it was or how it is, because it shall be entirely different.

We have not worked and struggled in vain.
It has been for and toward something.

Times are changing for the better.
Continue on the path of trust and be open to the new.

Mr. Cardinal and Mr. Junco

No, don't bother feeling sorry for them. The feeders are filled.

All of them.
All 8 0f them.

They weren't looking for food.
They were looking for pity.

Did it work, you ask?

Uh huh...

Guess who was outside this morning clearing off the little birdie feeders so they wouldn't get their little birdie feeties cold from the snow?

*rolling eyes*
What a pushover!!

*envisioning a picture of the reading fairy*

Putting values into action in our lives takes courage and hard work.
Sometimes the little steps we take mean a lot.

QOTW January 21

Be honest now …. do you snore?

What about your bed-mate?

What’s your remedy to get them to stop snoring?

I hear tell that I snore.

Now, I want you to know that the man has no solid proof to hand me that it's true, of course.
I--personally--think he makes it up.

But BOY does the Brit snore. He knows he does. Sometimes he'll wake HIMSELF up!
Now, he doesn't snore all the time.......
Just once in a while--but boy HOWDY can he cut loose with a roar of a snore!

IF I'm asleep--which is a big 'if'--and he wakes me up...I'm prone to solving the problem with a 'nudge'.
Now, HE'D say I clobber him a good one.

Trust me.
It's a nudge.

He'd KNOW it if I clobbered him.

He, on the other hand, slips off to the guest room when I 'supposedly' snore..... and this is where I find him in the morning.
I suppose you could claim this is the 'more gentle' solution.

IF I was snoring in the first place, I'd suppose I could agree.
But since there's absolutely NO solid proof that snoring happened via yours truly I'm inclined to believe he's slipping in there cuz I've stolen the covers AGAIN and he's staking claim on 'gramma's quilt' that's all fluffy and warm and all HIS on that guestroom bed!

Now.....I DO steal covers.
Fact is, I'm thinkin' about stealing 'gramma's quilt' from the guestroom and tossing it on top of the quilt on our bed.
That way I can steal 'em both in one good yank!

*nodding*
See how pratical I can be?!!! :-D

8:04--the phone rang.....Can I call 'em or WHAT?! ;-)

Yes--we had snow.
LOTSA snow.
BUNCHES of snow.
OODLES and bunches and lotsa snow......
And yep....even with a day at work cuz several folks couldn't brave the roads--I'm HAPPY!!
*doing happy dance*

We have oodles and bunches and lotsa clean fluffy snow!!!
Woooohooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*waiting*

I'm waiting for the phone to ring.......
I'm in my jammies....LOL....so I'm not actually HOPING it rings.

But I'm waiting for it to ring, nonetheless.
Undoubtedly someone won't make it in to work this morning.

*looking out window*

Lots of flakes--fluffy ones....and they're starting to pile up!

Now, generally, that'd be cause for celebration.
I'd even celebrate if the darn stuff started piling up around ten/eleven o'clock this morning.
But at this hour--it means folks are going to wake up and discover it's there....and go 'oops'..... Unlike me--who keeps abreast of the weather cuz the Brit's a virtual newscaster/weatherman. LOL

I knew there was a reason we lived a short distance to where I work.

*shrugs*

The phone hasn't rung yet.
Let me say that again--

The phone hasn't rung............YET.............

What is it wisepersoninmylife says?

What a difference a monitor makes!!

Oh my gosh!
Talk about a HUGE difference..and I mean huge.

I can now see the top of my desk in the study.
Okay, so in part that's due to cleaning the darn thing. But LCD monitor's are GREAT!
I've found my desktop!!
And the room looks bigger. No fooling.

Okay, okay.......so I suppose I oughta be happy about the new 'puter that came with the monitor.
C'mon--it's not like I use the darn thing for anything BUT typing and assorted word docs.
Who needs a hard drive that's a few hundred gigabytes for typing?!! And what am I gonna do with a DVD lightscribe writery thingamabob? *shrugs*

But the monitor.....wow......

I think I'll get himself one--home improvement, dontchaknow!
;-)

Sleeping With Bread

In the last week when did you feel most alive?

Wow--depends on the definition of 'alive', I'm sure.
I think I had the most appreciation for TODAY was when I was staring that stupid doctor's appointment in the face. The mere thought of getting to make it and once again going in to do that familiar 'stuff'---even though it's a much watered down version of it--was enough to jump start me back into where I needed to be. You'd think the further away you get from that gunk, the more you'd be floating around on some cloud. I mean, geeze....you've got that gift of TIME that no one believed you'd get!
*shaking head*
Oh no........not me! The further I get away from all of that, the more surreal it feels. Making that call--even knowing the call was needing to be made--got my attention.
It put things back into perspective and took the air out of the fluff in life.
How I go about losing perspective--I haven't a clue.
Geeze I wish I'd quit letting go of priceless lessons!!

....When did I feel the least alive?

As a matter of fact--that would be the day following the appointment being made. G'head..........shake the head and get it over with.
That simply puts the exclamation mark on what I put above, doesn't it?

The good news is I managed to grab it back again on Wednesday.
I gotta quit letting go of the things I need to hold on to and stop holding on to the things I need to let go of, huh?

'Thou Shalt Not'...........

He never rings me at work.

In the three years we've been married--maybe a dozen times he's braved making a call to the worksite.

Ya know how you get that 'uh oh' feeling?
I got one of those when the secretary buzzed me on the unit to tell me: "Your husband is on line one."

It was just another Friday until I picked up that phone....busier than sin but progressing fairly well.

'Busier than sin' is a good choice of words.

When he starts with: "I love you very much--but I'll understand if you want to divorce me........" that's a pretty good indication that the conversation isn't going to be 'pretty'.

It was quickly followed by "I've done something really horrible" and "It was accidental--I didn't mean for this to happen."

"I knew I needed to ring you straight away and let you know..... I can only hope that you'll forgive me at some point in this lifetime."

The only thing I can say--it's a darn good thing I'm a forgiving person.

He broke my coffee pot.
My firstthinginthemorning coffee pot.
He broke it.

But I stayed calm. You'da been proud of me.........

"I'm glad you called to tell me the truth.
Don't bother with the number for the attorney.
I won't be divorcing you.
But I do expect a solution for this--we'll figure that out when I get home.
You DO know this is one of the big 'Thou shalt nots' in my life..........don't you?"

The therapist who was with me at the time touched my arm (!!!) and asked if I just needed to go home....was I okay, was there something she could do for me.

"No, it's okay.....we'll pick up a new coffee pot tonight. It's not like we don't have four other coffee machines in the kitchen......"

How come *I* ended up being called a 'shit'?!
*I* wasn't the one who broke the 'firsthinginthemorning' coffee pot?!!

It's all about MEMEME

Just so you know --I don't do readings for anyone but me.......LOL
Have I not mentioned that I'm a very selfish/selfcentered person....

Don't get me wrong, I'm always glad for any worthiness found by the world at large from those reading fairies diddies--but it's about practice and focus and more practice for me. I've replaced enough doors (literally) for not actually reading the readings. Once I got around to actually reading them--THEN it became a lesson in 'putting it into practice'.
That concept had always been foreign for me.
HUGE library over here......but it was all head knowledge.
Putting it into action was a whole 'nother story.
This is why and HOW I've learned to do readings for ME.

Yesterday I quit counting after 37.
People were starting to look at me strangely. LOL

I learned some things though.

"Thank you for doing that---what a kindly thing to do" got met with confusion and sometimes a neurotic "whaddido?", deer in the headlight look.
More than one person told me "You're scaring me".
And several asked if I was 'okay'.

Shoot.......and I thought I was doing better at making people's day and being grateful!

I had to be very specific with people--they didn't seem to have a clue what I was talking about on a lot of occasions.
Made me wonder, I gotta tell ya........

And I can't tell you the number of people who gave me that 'knock it off' look---ya know, that discounting, distrustful look........
The one *I* shoot people when I don't wanna accept the kindly thing they've just tossed in my direction.

MORE practice!!
Only, I'm thinking it needs to be on graciously accepting kindly things given in MY direction as well......
I think....
Maybe.
Lemme get back to you after I consult with the reading fairies! LOL
They probably have a better idea. ;-)

Thursday, January 18, 2007

Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay.
I admit it.
The reading fairies got me all defensive this morning.

FORCED gratitude my arse!
There's nothing forced about it today.

I know I'm graced, thanksverymuch.
I wanna whap the fairies.

....shoot........
But I think the lesson might be about being grateful for the reminder about being grateful.......and for that I AM grateful?
*see me forcing gratitude and making this all circular? LOL*

Okay.......that's better.
I'm now humbled AGAIN.

I..........am an ungrateful snot some moments, huh?
*hanging head and humbly going to work*

Reading fairies for Thursday

Gratitude

Sometimes in life, things happen too fast.
We barely solve one problem when two new problems surface.
We're feeling great in the morning, but we're submerged in misery by nightfall.

Every day we face interruptions, delays, changes, and challenges.
We face personality conflicts and disappointments.
Often when we're feeling overwhelmed, we can't see the lessons in these experiences.

One simple concept can get us through the most stressful of times.
It's called gratitude.
We learn to say, thank you, for these problems and feelings.
Thank you for the way things are.
I don't like this experience, but thank you anyway.

Force gratitude until it becomes habitual.

Gratitude helps us stop trying to control outcomes.
It is the key that unlocks positive energy in our life.

It is the alchemy that turns problems into blessings, and the unexpected into gifts.

*happily chuckling*

Mel go nite-nite? LOL
Oh, don't I just look like trouble?!

But what fun!

http://www.sp-studio.de/ (In case you were wondering where I played.....)

Thanks for the playtime, Janna!

Silly girl............

Well – my new job title is official – thought I’d let you know! So if you don’t see/hear as much from me – you’ll know that my direct reports have kidnapped me and locked me in a closet somewhere :)
Look what they said about me!

'She brings with her a vast knowledge of the technical side of ....... as well as innovative ideas, high enthusiasm and a drive to improve operations.'

(Congratulations to the girl--she's been promoted and she's now the team lead for a studio.)

My response? :

*waving at the new team lead!*

Wow.........what a complimentary introduction.

Ummmm.........
They forgot 'unruly and high maintenance'. LOL

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

Show me da MONEY!!! ;-)

To which she reveals her keen business skills with a reply of:

Errmmm....money? There's suppose to be more money involved in a promotion?
NOW you tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*chuckling*

Innovative, enthusiastic, driven..........and CHEAP!

Misinterpretting the messenger?

I put my head on the desk today.

No one knows how significant that is--'cept me.
See, wisepersoninmylife used to spend a whole lot of time putting his head on the table/desk and shaking it back and forth in ---dismay, perhaps? Frustration?
I spent a whole lot of time hearing "G-d.......please remove her brain" from that position....in a kinda forelorned, agonized pitch.......
Truth be told, there were plenty of times I WORKED to get that response.
Go figure, huh?

But I gotta wonder.....

Cuz there I was with my head on the desk today--and outta my mouth came:

"Oh my G-d.........it's like dealing with ME!"

Nah......

Ya think? LOL

Meme bookbook quoteqoute

Page 123, fifth sentence followed by the sixth and seventh sentence.

(I suck at directions, so if that's screwed up.............sue me! LOL)

Okay.
That wasn't funny.

I got up--got the book and GO FIGURE......

Page 123 has two sentences on the page.

*tosses the book and rolls eyes*

Clone her

She lacks confidence, she craves admiration insatiably. She lives on the reflections of herself in the eyes of others. She does not dare to be herself.--Anais Nin

The above is not connected to the below.
-----but for the record, I did make my appointment.

From work no less......which is weird that I'd complete a personal task from the worksite. I've made it practice not to mix home life with work stuff for a very long time.
Fact is, I get irritated when the two bleed into each other.

I say 'private', other folks say 'secretive'.
My newer answer is "I believe in being 'present' in the moment".
*chuckling*
Sounds good, huh?

It was a minor miracle the appointment got made yesterday.
Mostly because I couldn't--for the life of me--come up with the oncologist's name.
Mind you, I've had the same fella for eons.
It's not for lack of visiting with him.
He's consulted on near every medical procedure someone wants to do with me. Between my immune system and the generalized fear of any GP that I brave seeing, they 'prefer' to consult with the oncologist--even after this period of remission.
I have a file that's volumes deep.
For the LIFE of me--I couldn't come up with the name.
So I did what any good boss would do for an answer.....

I went to the brains of the operation.
My ever wise secretary.
"I need you to get hold of Dr. Neo-Nazi for me--ring me when you've got the office?"

(yes........this is what I've referred to him as for eons. He must not mind too much, he hung the darn plaque with that on it in his office!)

EUREKA! Paydirt..........and one appointment-- made.

That's the good thing about wise secretaries (btw--the whole agency I work for wants my secretary--and if they can't have her......which they can't....the least they want is to be able to clone her)......they're efficient and they're professional--and they keep the darndest information.

The bad thing about wise secretaries? They get horribly protective of their employers.

She spent the morning eyeballing me. EVERY chance she got--I was getting 'that look'. I got 'that look' so often, I was acutally GLAD to be going to my Right Turn Left Turn meeting.

"Okay.......that's IT!! It's just a checkup forcrying out loud!! I'm DUE, okay?"

She shrugged and acted like she didn't have a clue why I'd be coughing up that information.
*rolling eyes* (They'd be cloning a smartarse---I've told them all that........and they STILL wanna clone her.)

Then she closed the door and pulled up a chair...........
"You're not lying are you? You're not calling from here so your husband is left in the dark, right?"

(I'm calling payroll and having her wages held for that one........)

Do you have ANY idea how humbling it is to get to admit you couldn't ring them from the privacy of your own office because you'd forgotten their name!??
Do you have any idea how validating wise secretaries are when they confess they have the number in their phonebook listed under 'N' for Neo-Nazi?

I did have to give her points for that.
.....And I gave her points for calling me on leaving the Brit in the dark.

What a sunshiney brilliant day!!

It's minus seven degrees actual temperature today.

Add that with the wind---you've got a minus of 24 degrees.
That's fiftysix degrees below the temperature of freezing, in case you were wondering.

Can you say brrrrrrrrrr?
Looks pretty though!

We had pink snow this morning thanks to the sunrise.
I couldn't be bothered to snap a photo of it though.
I was too busy watching to locate the camera.

Lazy me!

It's off to the Right Turn Left Turn meeting this morning. (well, that's what I've dubbed it cuz I make fun with letters like that)
More time with people I'm not particularly affectionate about.
It's all good..........it give me practice on the 'Love and tolerance of others is our code' along with 'The rule is hard on ourselves, easy on others.' (well, okay, the second isn't verbatim--but you get the idea)

And just for the record

"Love is a choice you make from moment to moment" is on that nifty calendar himself gave me.
He's a mushbucket--I'm sure it's not some conspiracy!

Love and tolerance of others is our code.
Love and tolerance of others is our code.........

Wouldn't it be nice if the whole world operated under that code?
Then I wouldn't need to........LOLOL

And the winner of today's stucksongitus is----

I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' 'Don't blame me'
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight
You don't want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing

Get over it
Get over it
If you don't want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, Get over it

It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit
Get over it, get over it

Shelves

Wedgewood bone china--sitting next to a box that came wrapped with the ribbons that are casually stuffed into it.......

The box came holding one pebble inscribed with the word 'love'--and one angel for my pocket that simply reads 'peace'.
They were given to me JUST in case I needed to carry a reminder. If you tip the cup, you'll find 'love' in there. 'Peace' was peeking around the corner of the plate, looking to be found--or looking to find you....

This shelf is in the bedroom......good place for it. I pass it first thing in the morning.
And I pass it last thing at night.
I hear tell that if you walk past something enough times, it becomes invisible to you....kinda like that sock in the middle of the livingroom floor. (okay, probably NOT like the sock on the livingroom floor, huh?)
I don't 'miss' those things on the wall.
Maybe it's because I make a point not to miss those things....
Don't get me wrong--I can let the busy-ness of the day cheat me of what's good and true and truly important with the best of 'em.
But I'm hard pressed to completely let go of those things.....and I'm extremely hard pressed to forget what brought me to where I am today.
I have those reminders around me as well.
They're on other shelves.........ones that are behind doors and closed away.

Maybe I'd be wiser to set them out.
I know they're there.
I'm not in denial that they're there.
They've bourne the journey to here.

Some folks learn through books and instructors.
I'd like to claim I'm that sort of folk....but truth be told, I'm an experiential learner. My best lessons resulted from life experiences.
I'm pretty sure G-d, since He made me this way, is acutely aware of how to get my attention and what leaves an impression on me.
Frankly, He's had my attention for some time now.....

I tucked the angel in my pocket today.

Not because peace has left me--I've never known such peace as I have today.

No, that's not true....
I've known greater peace at different moments in time.
Times when the people around me couldn't understand HOW I was at peace with the circumstances--I was at peace.
They were defined for me as 'tough times'.
I'm not sure they'd hit the top ten list of 'tough times in my life' if you asked me today.
Times prior to those moments seemed tougher. Maybe they shouldn't have. In the grand scheme of things, really--how important were they?
But at those moments when perspective is shoved up your nose--wouldn't you think THOSE moments would make peace an elusive thing?

Not so.

Those were some of the more peacefilled moments in my lifetime.
I knew what was truly important.

I knew that the pebble brought the angel.

I grabbed that angel today.
She's in my pocket.
I'll carry her for a few days--maybe longer.
Oddly enough, just carrying her filled me with a greater sense of peace.
I'll keep carrying her until I feel centered in what a gift all of this has been for me....what a treasured gift that I'm still here, still allowed to participate and bring to others lives--that's when she'll be returned to peek from behind the plate.

Setting up appointments, revisiting those things on the other shelves--waiting for results and remembering---

If I need to, I'll stick 'love' in my pocket and work forward from there.

Cuz I know what brings peace.

Fairy thoughts on a Monday......

We learn some behaviors have self-defeating consequences, while others have beneficial consequences. We learn we have choices.....

It is so easy to come to the defense of others.
How clear it is when others are being used, controlled, manipulated, or abused.
It is so easy to fight their battles, become righteously indignant, rally to their aid, and spur them on to victory.
"You have rights," we tell them. "And those rights are being violated. Stand up for yourself, without guilt."

Why is it so hard, then, for us to rally to our own behalf?
Why can't we see when we are being used, victimized, lied to, manipulated, or otherwise violated?
Why is it so difficult for us to stand up for ourselves?

There are times in life when we can walk a gentle, loving path.
There are times, however, when we need to stand up for ourselves - when walking the gentle, loving path puts us deeper into the hands of those who could mistreat us.

Some days, the lesson we're to be learning and practicing is one of setting boundaries.
Some days, the lesson we're learning is that of fighting for our own rights and ourselves.

Sometimes, the lesson won't stop until we do.

QOTW January 14th

Do you have a hard time making eye contact when you are talking to people?

I don't have a tough time making eye contact with folks I know OR don't know.
Unless I've decided I'm going to be 'shy'.
*snickering*
Tough to imagine I'd ever BE shy, huh?

Every once in a while I hit a spot where I'm not quite sure of myself in the circumstances at hand........though that's not the norm, it can happen.

Oh......and after I've lied. LOL Though I CAN look you straight in the eye and lie to ya!

I've trained myself to look away and wince/cringe painfully after lying so I can get caught.
LOLOL
Nothing like the obvious, huh?

Sunday's Habit

Wisepersoninmylife and I had a 'chat' this morning. (not unusual for a Sunday--it's when we try to touch base if we haven't 'gotten around to it' before then). Coffee out is a good thing, as long as the coffee's good. I'm a creature of habit, go figure.
The Brit tells me he doesn't worry about losing track of what day of the week it is, he just watches me.
That's probably accurate--if I don't make something a 'habit', I'm bound to let it get away from me. Consequently, I get pretty 'predictable' in my comings and goings.

Sunday I tend to 'go' a whole lot.
I DO make it home for dinner.......most times......LOL
This morning it was a meeting, coffee with wisepersoninmylife and I met with a pigeon.
Generally I hit two meetings and meet with two pigeons..... Not today-- I have one out of state for a few months on a contract.
And I have one that's back out drinking.....*sigh* Nothing's changed there. It's all I can do to not do an intervention.
I'll probably be asked to by the wife who's apparently not AS convinced as he is that 'social drinking' is now an option.

If you're a smart pigeon, you'll hit that morning meeting with me and grab a meeting with me BEFORE I get time with wisepersoninmylife. LOL Or so the pigeons tell me. "I HATE meeting with you after you've met with your sponsor......." *shrugs*

I thought wisepersoninmylife was rather gracious with me today. He seems to think I 'work too much' and 'play too little'. I'm going to refer him to the Brit who says I take the saying "Don't be taking life too darn serious" too darn serious!

It's probably the ungodly amount of time I've been spending at the worksite that's shaping wisepersoninmylife's opinion.
Oh well!!

And he picked up my tenth step journal........remember I have two of them cuz I wanted to avoid a fourth and fifth step.
Ah well, let 'em pay postage? LOL
It was a painless meeting.......mostly........

Until after he picked up my tenth step journal and he hit me with the question:
"So it's January---when'll you be getting that checkup done?"

.........gee..........I'd forgotten all about 'that' checkup..........
I seem to recall getting a postcard from the oncologist that served as a reminder--which I promptly put out of my head.

"Yes thank you, I think I'd like to do that" was the appropriate answer when he frowned at me.

"Make the appointment. And don't let that stuff live rent free in your head."

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggghhhhhhhtttttttttttt.

It's not the squirrels in MY brain that I'm worried about--well, not AS much as I'm worried about the Brit's squirrels.
He borrows troubles ALL the time.
*nodding*
That's my story and I'm sticking to it? LOL

I'm almost sure I didn't transfer any of that 'grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' to the poor pigeon. LOL ALMOST, mindyou.

Yes thank you, I'll make that freaking appointment.....but I'm not gonna be HAPPY about it.
That's the attitude I've chosen and it's mine TO choose--so pffffffffffttttttttt!!! :-P

*wincing*
And YES I'll put that in my tenth step.
*rolling eyes*

Fairy thought....

Wanting others to approve our efforts, our appearance, our aspirations and behavior is perfectly normal, certainly not unhealthy.
However, needing the approval in order to proceed with our lives is.

In early childhood we are taught to obey others and to please them.
We confuse love with approval, and we begin to march to someone else's drum.
Then we get even more approval.
But soon we get out of step with ourselves; we neglect our personal needs and become puppets.
Giving away our power to the whims of others weakens our Spirit.

Personal freedom means choosing our own behavior; it means acting rather than reacting.
It also means allowing ourselves the full adventure of living, of meeting each moment wholly, of responding in a pure, spontaneous, personally honest manner.
Only then can we give to life what is ours to give.
Each of us has a unique part to play in the drama of life.
And we need not to rely on those whose approval we think we need.

When we turn within for guidance, all the approval we could hope for will be ours.

A snowy welcome

:-)

And definitely a welcomed snow!
Okay.......so it's not the snowman making kinda snow.
I'll save Mr. Snowmaninabucket for another day.

(We've already been waiting a year---NOT that I've kept notice of it, mindyou.)

*squirming excitedly*

Uh huh.........this is snow!
Okay, granted it's not a whole LOT of snow......but it's snow nonetheless..........
I've been waiting.
And waiting....
AND WAITING for snow.
We haven't had a flurry since October.....nary a flake.
*doing happy dance*
It's snowing!!
It's snowing!!!!!!!
(remind me of this post come March when it's snowing again and I'm tired of the darn white stuff.........)

It's snowing!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooohoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And me and Mr. Snowmaninabucket are happy, happy HAPPY!

:-D

Stars and moons.....

Stars and moons, bubbles and duckies...... and, of course, What A Wonderful World......

That's some kinda wonderful, huh?
