Go there and turn the drop into a wave. :-)

It's been over a year since WPIML #2 moved.
And I had a look around.....I've had multiple look arounds.......

And I've failed to assign myself a 'local' WPIML.

This is no surprise to WPIML #1 who's 'up there'--he knows I've been relying on him.....and I dare say it came as no real surprise to WPIML #2 who's back visiting his kiddos for the holidays.
"Go figure--guess you're needing me to help you do that....."

NOnonononoNO! Contraire'.....I've been catching WPIML #1 'up there' on a regular basis.

AND I've been catching WPIML #2 who's 'visiting for the holidays' on a more....ummm.... irregular basis.

k......that's mostly so he's staying off my case about NOT having asked someone locally to step in to fill that role.

Yup. When I procrastinate, I procrastinate BIG!

It' s been over a year.
*sigh*

WPIML #2, who's visiting for the holidays, assures me WE'LL "get 'er done" before he goes back from whence he cometh.
He's already consulted WPIML #1 who, apparently WHOLE heartedly, agreed.
Right. It's a conspiracy.....

Yeah, yeah, yeah.........
But I don't WANT a different WPIML......

*sigh*
Just sayin'......

Any bets on who that 'WE' that's gonna "get 'er done" is?

Things'll get REAL interesting over the next couple of weeks.......

O

*sigh*

More dust

Commitment is more than just a mental exercise.
It's not a commitment until you back it up with action.

......oh--by the way..........

I probably need to mention that while the staff were WONDERFULLY behaved with the 3CPO's who visited.......

I..........WAS NOT.

k........there.
Told on myself!

Sooooooooooo.......
........as a direct result of my choices yesterday--my 'consequence' will be to take "Iwanna Hippopotamus" to the Administrative Meeting with me.
*nodding*
AND the button.......
(which I'm sure I'll be forced to push multiple times......)

THAT'LL teach me!
:-/

k......EVERYbody sing!!!!! :-)

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door, that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes to see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes to see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses

And hippopotamuses like me too!

I'm not panicking.....

k.....

REALLY....I'm not panicking.

Are the prezzies wrapped? No.
Did I at least open the closet door and let 'em fall out--Yes.

Are we done with prezzie shopping? NO
Have I even FELT like prezzie shopping?......*sigh* Been too unwell.....

Are the holidays getting closer and closer? YES

I'm not panicking.
Really.

Really.....the panic isn't about anything BUT having to deal with the masses in the stores....

O
M
GawdIdon'twannadothis.......

Hmmmmm.......

What you think you want is usually not really what you want.

Most of the time, what you think you want is merely a clue, a hint, a pointer to what you truly desire.
Every purpose within you has countless avenues for expression.

There's no need to abandon the purpose if just one or two of the many possible expressions don't work out.
When you feel that you want something, challenge yourself to find the deeper desire that's responsible.

Ask yourself why, and be completely honest with your answer.

The more deeply you connect to a desire, the more options you'll have for fulfilling that desire. When your conscious desires align with your true purpose, you will always find a way.

FMI (for my information)

Well, the boss failed to show up for the 3CPO's adventure in 'meet Mel's staff'.
I'm sure he'll hear all about it.
The 3CPO's will tell him.

They were wonderfully behaved.
And I mean wonderfully.
I didn't pay 'em to say kind things--but they were said none-the-less.

Of all the programs in the agency, this one has the highest success rate, the best outcome data, the lowest rate of staff turn-over. It's rare that we ever have an open bed--the waiting list tends to be quite long.
We're 'good' at what we do.
It's a multi-faceted program treating the whole problem--not just the outward noise, we do a lot of therapies to deal with what drives the problems the rest of the world is 'allowed' to see.
It's our privilege to get to deal squarely with the issues no one has been able to previously touch.
And it IS a privilege....

What is it that makes that magic happen?

According to the staff--It's the sense of everyone being FOR the kiddos and families, the sense of the staff being a family and not just a 'team'....knowing that others 'have your back', knowing that folks will show up when the fur is flying and the folks dealing with the flying fur will get rescued and helped and supported, even when it's people's time off....the sense of 'never surrendering' or 'giving up' because so many people have tossed their hands up and given up on these kiddos before.
We just won't.
It's not how we're made.
And we know the difference between folks who show up for a paycheck and folks who show up because they're 'purposed' to do what we do.
We search for people who'll stick around, who'll remain, who'll be invested.....who'll be there two years later when the kiddo they worked with rings back to check in.....cuz remaining in the life of a child MATTERS.

And then one of the 3CPO's asked where that sense of 'family' and 'purpose/mission' got nurtured:

Nothing gets asked of the staff that the manager isn't doing or isn't willing to do.

The leadership gets up at two in the morning on New Years Day to help look for kids who decided that two in the morning was a 'good time for an unapproved walk about'. (naughty kiddos!)

Where else does the manager work from their home until midnight, on their off time, to make sure the paperwork's done so they can play with the kiddos the next day....
Where else does the manager work every holiday and whiz in for a staff member who needs to leave for an hour or so to attend their own kiddos football game....
Where else does the manager peel potatoes, do dishes and get in water fights with the kiddos .... and the staff..... (Shhhhhhhhhh!!!)
Where else does the manager care so much about what's 'right' and so little about 'being popular' or 'liked' or 'one of the administrative gang'.....(ooooooops.....)
Do the other managers schedule themselves until 10pm twice a week so they can tuck the kids in bed....
Do the other managers know the names of every student and every mom and every dad their unit serves?

There's the agency's standards, and there's Mel's standards.
Ohhhhhh no...No body piercing staff allowed here!! No eyebrow rings, no nose piercings-- No slinky clothing, no tattoo displaying, no cleavage
(LOL)....we're responsible to go 360 degrees in the opposite direction--maybe we'll help that kid find a happy medium instead of presenting themself as 'the happy hooker'....(OMG!!! LOL)

We have the best leadership you could want. They don't lead by preaching or telling. They lead by showing and doing and then doing with us before having us do.

There's not a job here the leadership can't do. They're not going to NOT know. And if by chance they don't know.....they WILL. Do YOU know how to make quiche for 50 people?
(LOL.....don't tell himself!)

Mel's always saying "When all else fails........just LOVE 'er." ....Even when they've gotten so mad they've spit on you. I've seen 'em spit on her--and I've seen her love 'em anyway. That's what I want to be if I ever grow up. (geeze......that made my throat tight....)

Oh, they had wonderful things to say about each other, about how much they learn--how much they personally get to 'grow' while doing what they do.
And they had such wonderful things to say about the kiddos and families--stories of hard won successes, of lives changed, of families healing and reuniting....

But I don't wanna forget what matters to the folks I'm privileged to work with.
Cuz the next time I whine about draggin' my arse into the worksite on a snowy winter's day, I wanna remember what that MEANS in the life of a kiddo...

What goes around--G-d willing....comes around.........

(-:

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,in the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,we're happy tonight,walking in a winter wonderland.
Gone away is the bluebird, here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,as we go along, walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married? we'll say: No man,
But you can do the jobwhen you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,as we dream by the fire
To face unafraid, the plans that we've made, walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman, and pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman, until the other kiddies knock him down.
When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way, walking in a winter wonderland.

Random Ramblin'

  1. There's something really sad about turning off Mr. Snowman and Penfold the Penguin and having them standing upright under the 1/4" of ice that covers them. Oooooohhhhhhhh. *sniffle*
  2. WHY is it imperative that the CEO, CFO and CwhateversheisO show up to talk with all of us at one of THE busiest times of the year?! And hows come I have to play "the hostess with the mostest"?! I SUCK at being politically correct and I just KNOW I'm gonna open my mouth and get 'one of those' looks from the boss..... It'll probably happen when I make some remark about the 3CPO's on tour. That'll probably do it, huh?
  3. What's the point of having a 'specialist' when you know more about what they're suppose to 'specialize' in than they do? *scratching head*
  4. Being the 'first they call' during crappy weather isn't an all bad thing.
Being the 'first they call' during crappy weather isn't an all bad thing.
Being the 'first they call' during crappy weather isn't an all bad thing.
  5. Ice covered parking lots are slickery.....it's just that darn simple! DO NOT wear heels on ice covered parking lot kinda days. DUH?
  6. IF ya order a dinner for 40 people there's bound to be SOMEthing you can eat. *trying to 'member menu* Yup.....green beans! Woooohooooooo!!! I done GOOD! Leastwise I THINK I ordered green beans....hmmmm.....
  7. If you work with kiddos and families do you REALLY haffta deal in menus and production sheets and how many ounces of each main dish is a 'serving'? Umm......omgosh the answer is "YES". *shaking head*
  8. I THINK I ordered green beans.....did I order green beans?
  9. Oh wait. The 3CPO's are coming to visit, the parking lot is slickery... I am NOT wearing heels and you can't make me......
  10. Why, oh WHY does the IT department decide to 'perform maintenance' and tell you AFTER the fact that you'll lose word doc.s that you put on your desktop? RAWR!!!!! k.....I'm gonna ASSUME I ordered green beans...... And really.....what does it matter if the 'due tomorrow' spreadsheet with the projected budget for the next six months got swallowed up and lost in cyberspace?

Things that make me happy

....hundreds of twinkly tree lights.

....red buckets and bell ringers.

....waving Santas.

....waddling penguins.

....fat, fluffy snowflakes.

....writing secret messages on frost covered windshields.

....gluten free chex mix just for MEMEME. (k.....so there's only one kinda Chex and nuts....it's still for MEMEME!)

Today's Fairy Thought

For many of us, the issue is not whether we can trust another person again; it's whether we can trust our own judgment again.
Many of us have trusted people, who went on to deceive, abuse, manipulate, or otherwise exploit us because we trusted them.

We may have found these people charming, kind, and decent.
There may have been a small voice that said, "No - something's wrong."
Or we may have been comfortable with trusting that person and shocked when we found our instincts were wrong.

The issue may then reverberate through our life for years.

Our trust in others may have been shaken, but our trust in ourselves may have been shattered worse.
How could something feel so right, flow so well, and be such a total mistake?
How can I ever trust my selection process again, when it showed itself to be so faulty?
We may never have the answers.

I believe I needed to make certain "mistakes" to learn critical lessons I'm not certain I would have otherwise learned.

We cannot let our past interfere with our ability to trust ourselves.
We cannot afford to function out of fear.
If we are always making the wrong decision in business or in love, we may need to learn why we insist on defeating ourselves.

But most of us do improve.
We learn.
We grow from our mistakes.

Slowly, in increments, our relationships improve.
Our business choices improve.
Our decisions about how to handle situations with friends or children improve.
We benefit from our mistakes.
We benefit from our past.
And if we have made mistakes, we needed to make them in order to learn along the way.

Today, I will let go of my fears about trusting myself because I have made mistakes in the past. I understand that these fears only serve to impair my judgment today. I will give my past, even my mistakes, validity by accepting and being grateful for it all. I will strive to see what I've gained from my mistakes. I will try to look at all my good decisions too. I will keep a watchful eye for improvement, for overall progress, in my life.

Ummmmmmm.......

(I really can't stay)
But baby it's cold outside(Got to go away)
But baby it's cold outside(This evening has been)
Been hoping you'd drop in(So very nice)
I'll hold your hands they're just like ice(My mother will start to worry)
Beautiful watch you're wearing(My father will be pacing the floor)
Listen to the fireplace roar(So really I'd better scurry)
Beautiful please don't hurry(Well maybe just half a drink more)
Put some records on while I pour(The neighbors might think)
Baby it's bad out there(Say what's in this drink)
No cabs to be had out there(I wish I knew how)
Your eyes are like starlight now(To break this spell)
I'll take your hat your hair looks swell(I ought to say no no no sir)
Mind if I move in closer(At least I'm going to say I tried)
What's the sense of hurting my pride(I really can't stay)
Baby don't hold out
Baby it's cold outside

(I simply must go)
But baby it's cold outside(The answer is no)
But baby it's cold outside(This welcome has been)
How lucky that you dropped in(So nice and warm)
Look out the window at the storm(My sister will be suspicious)
Gosh your lips look delicious(My brother will be there at the door)
Waves upon a tropical shore(My maiden aunt's mind is vicious)
Ooohh your lips are delicious(Well maybe just a cigarette more)
Never such a blizzard before(I got to get home)
But baby you'd freeze out there(Say lend me a comb)
It's up to your knees out there(You've really been grand)
I thrill when you touch my hand(But don't you see)
How can you do this thing to me(There's bound to be talk tomorrow)
Think of my life long sorrow(At least they'll be plenty implied)
If you caught pneumonia and died(I really can't stay)
Get over that old doubt
Ah but it's cold outside
She started it!!!!!!!!!!

*whistling happily*

It's the most wonderful time of the year.
With the kids jingle belling,
and everyone telling you,
"Be of good cheer,"
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
There'll be parties for hosting,
marshmallows for toasting and
caroling out in the snow.
there'll be scary ghost stories and
tales of the glories of Christmases
long, long ago.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
There'll be much mistletoeing
and hearts will be glowing,
when loved ones are near.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.

(these folks don't know moderation either.....LOL)

QOTW 12/8/08

Quick.....off the top of your head......give five things you KNOW at this very minute.

I "KNOW" this is a really, really, REALLY good cuppa coffee. I'm hoping it STAYS a really, really, REALLY good cuppa coffee and doesn't 'revisit' me this morning like it has for the last few mornings. (I know that's a polite way of getting around saying I've been upchucking a lot..LOL...k.......maybe that doesn't count as one of those things that I "KNOW"...maybe it does--depends on how brain-dead I turn out to be...)

I "KNOW" it's cold out and they're forecasting a winter storm today/tomorrow. Wait--that's what they were saying last night--I'm not sure I "KNOW" that this morning cuz the forecast coulda changed. But it IS cold, so I'm leaving it as something I "KNOW".

And how do I "KNOW" that it's cold out (??)--cuz I decided I needed to unplug the apparently forgotten snowflake light that stayed on all night and zipped across the garage in my robe with bare feeties. YUP......freaking cold!!!! Yup, I "KNOW" this was an unbrilliant thing to do! (counts!)

I "KNOW" that I don't have to work today....and I'm still up and att'em as usual. This was true for the whole weekend....as it is every day, day in day out. Wonderful things, internal alarms..... k....I might not mean that....

I "KNOW" I have a bazillion things that needed to be done this weekend that weren't done this weekend cuz I was unwell.... *sigh* Rats and darnitall. But I "KNOW" I got the cards addressed and in the mail.....so there's progress?

TFTD

When you see changes occurring, instead of making a judgment make a careful observation.
You cannot stop the changes that are already taking place, so your best strategy is to find the opportunities that are embedded within them.
And those positive opportunities are most certainly there.
Rather than being fearful of the changes, be curious.

Sleeping with Bread

During the bombing raids of WWII, thousands of children were orphaned and left to starve. The fortunate ones were rescued and placed in refugee camps where they received food and good care. But many of these children who had lost so much could not sleep at night. They feared waking up to find themselves once again homeless and without food. Nothing seemed to reassure them. Finally, someone hit upon the idea of giving each child a piece of bread to hold at bedtime. Holding their bread, these children could finally sleep in peace. All through the night the bread reminded them, "Today I ate and I will eat again tomorrow."

I read that entry for Sleeping with Bread for the umpteenth time this morning.
But this morning it read differently for me.
Chalk it up to me being a bit 'nostalgic' this morning......

Fear of waking up to find themselves in a horrid position--

I sleep, hanging tight to my bread every night.
It's so much a 'habit' and 'routine'--I don't see anything different or unusual about it (though I am told it's unusual by himself).
Every night I get to take stock of the good, the bad, and the ugly in Mel's day.
It's not those things that 'happen to me' that I'm taking stock of....it's ME. Yaknow, the one thing/person I can do something about......
How many years did I 'journal' about what life handed me, keeping stock of the awfullness of life and circumstances-- refusing to take a look at what part I played in those situations?

*sigh* Too many.

And now....truly..... every night I go to bed grateful--cuz I know what, come the new day, I'll be doing with it all.
I don't go to bed feeling worse for the experience--even after discovering my part (which, I gotta admit, I'm not always thrilled about.....)
I know what direction I'll be headed with it--and it's 'towards' the problem/dilema/conflict and not running like crazy in the opposite direction, hoping someone'll forget.....hoping I don't cross paths with someone, hoping the problem(s) will mysteriously disappear...
......or worse yet, drinking/drugging them away.

I did a whole lot of that.
Too much....enough to bring me to the disciplines I practice every day and every night and every minute inbetween.

I don't find it the least bit 'unusual' to admit that I'm grateful for a discipline that had to be 'forced', that I'm grateful for the horrid circumstances that pushed the envelope to GET me to where I needed to be so I could get the discipline I needed to have something soooooo different to what I had once-upon-a-time.

But I am.
Eternally.... grateful.

Every night I go to bed with a slice of something different than I had yesterday. A good slice of bread.....a piece that's a bit more savory, more filling.
And every morning I wake, remind myself and the Big Guy what brought me here....and I move into the day to do it different.
Every day.

It's through His grace that I came to a different way of doing life.
I know this deeply...completely..without doubt......

I celebrated an anniversary in A.A. yesterday.
WE celebrated--G-d and me.....

It was a great party.
He served bread--He serves me that daily......

Amen.

Proof!!

Yeah, well......

So I thought it would be a cute banner to hang on the house with Penfold and Mr. Snowman waving around in the wind.
The neighbors......not so thrilled.

I believe we're the source of blame for the more recent snows.

*shrugs*
Yeah right........
BLAME the banner!!!!!

*rolling eyes*
Everyone knows it's the twinkley snowflake lights that did it.
Sheeeeeeeeeshhhhhh.....
