This moment brought to you by the Elephant....

People scramble a whole lot when they feel threatened with 'truth' being put out there.  I think the word is 'exposed'....that's the word I used once upon a time.

It's the ones with something to hide, the ones who've told stories from one side to assume a victim position that do the most scrambling.  Ya know, the ones who really don't want someone with information that they've not divulged in the room cuz 'it's awkward'.
The better word would be 'threatening'.

Well, it's threatening only when that other perspective, that other basket of 'facts', shows up.  Yikes is there a scramble.......
Sometimes it's a 'quick--get to 'em and play NICE' scramble.
Sometimes it's a 'ohhhhhh crappppp' and avoid 'em like crazy scramble.
Sometimes it's a 'pretend they're not really there' scramble...
I know the tactics well.  I oughta--I've used 'em all.

Really--I grew up in a household of 'don't talk' and 'make it look different than it is'.  You do that well when you grow up in an abusive, alcoholic household that doesn't want found out--that YOU don't want found out either.  I have a whole lot of training in how to make things look different than they really are.
I also have a commitment and a responsibility to 'truth'---I'm a truth sayer.  Nothing changes until one owns what's true.
And most times, what's true isn't 'fun' or 'pretty' or 'socially acceptable'..and it's far from comfortable.
It isn't, however, an indictment on the other person's worth and value--or an absence of love and affection from the truth-sayer.

I don't MEAN to be threatening, though I do know it is threatening.  I'm well familiar with being in closed quarters with someone who's apt to 'bust me out'.
Nowadays I get humble, I get honest, and I move forward.

Ironically, I make it my mission to SURROUND myself with people who'll make that happen in my life BECAUSE of where I came from, and BECAUSE of my propensity to make it look different than what it is.

Being that for others is what I do well.....it's a part of what I was designed to be.
It's also threatening to folks.
And it sometimes makes me the elephant in the room.

There are those who'll run towards the truth-sayers, and those who will run from the truth-sayers.
I'll just do what works for me and find an okay-ness with elephants......

hit a nerve...I keep stupid little secrets bottled up. There was this secret I had about a coworker who I had met years ago under stressful circumstances. I hadn't ever mentioned it to anyone, and she and I have never discussed it. But I told Cristy about it this past week. The way I felt uncomfortable when I had first met her - and how we've pretended it never happened. Large elephant, that one. ... to answer your question about the flowerpots, they can be heavy and you clearly don't want to stress your fence. I just use the small pots. Have to water just about every day and some water does drip out the bottom.

I would run to you...(and probably fall flat on my face in the process...running not being my forte) I'm a truth kinda gal. Lies just tie you up in knots.

Amen!

And I'm one of those elephants in the room too! Makes many people uncomfortable, but hey, I'd rather someone feel uncomfortable around me for sharing truth, than not.

I know we share the taproot of honesty, Mel. I'm glad it's the truth that sets us free - and you are soooo correct. A lot of people chose to be locked in their own prisons of deceit.

I'm way behind, but I will check out back posts to see how your sister is doing.

I grew up with lies told
and by lies they made me tell.
I'd love to speak out
but still cannot
I remain
invisible.

Hi Mel,

Some of us arrive at a point in our adult lives where we are no longer content to bear our load. We want to rise above and beyond the burden that we did not choose.

And, you choose to evolve...

I lived in the house with an emotionally fragile father, and a Mother often filled both parent roles.

It was only when my father was terminally ill and returning back, did I understand more on my childhood.

Knowledge is power.

Well I'm most definitely not an elephant. And I tend to let things be unless I've got a really good notion of how I want them changed.
'They also serve who only stand and wait'?
We need elephants and 'stand and wait'-ers - I hope : )
