Lost

"Mel--I have no clue where I am.... I'm lost..... Mel....I did a stupid thing. I went for a walk--and I'm drunk. I planned this. You're right--I plan them all.... I'm lost. I'm so lost, you have no clue....."

It's hard to end a phone call when it starts like that, when you hear the terror in their voice.

Yes, he was intoxicated.
Yes, he'd made the choice to leave his home to walk in an intoxicated state.

No--I couldn't....wouldn't simply say "sounds like you have a problem" and no--I didn't end the call.

.....And yes......he's lost.....

He was scared enough to listen to me.
Scared enough to tell me he was done, to ask that I meet with him in the morning.
Scared enough to be willing to follow what I asked of him.
Scared enough....

He's home, safe.
That was my sole mission for tonight.

And I hope......I hope when the light of day comes--he remains scared enough.

Hard to wish for fear, hard to ask the big guy for some one else to be in the space, but maybe in some way I could just say "please" and hope he fills in the need.

I, Like The View said...

they are some lucky people who have you at the end of a phone

Wow, it must be nice for him to know you are there.
Hope he's not still lost, sounds like he was a bit more than physically lost, I hope he finds his way back.
much love

We are so lucky to know you Mel.
Your friend is even luckier - I really hope he is scared enough now.
