My boss had a heart attack about four months ago. That was a tough moment. I'd lost a boss a few years earlier to a heart attack. Absolutely noone wants to do a repeat of that.
I'm not even going to mention that I LIKE my boss.
I mean I genuinely LIKE the man. (did I say I wasn't going to mention that?)
I also had a deep abiding respect for my earlier boss.
I had a whole lot of admiration and genuine care for the man.
I miss Jim..........he was a great boss and just a GOOD man...period.
I have some great conversations with Keith. He's pretty awesome. I like that we can share things on a professional level and on a spiritual level--he can challenge the by-jeepers out of me and I can do likewise.....I don't buy his B.S., he doesn't buy mine.
I've come to rely on 'those kind' of people being in my life.
I don't need people buying my B.S.
I'd had Keith for a boss for three years earlier during my career with this agency. His responsibilities got shifted and he got reassigned---I then had Jim for my supervisor.
When Jim died I was asked who I wanted to be my supervisor.
Honestly, who were they going to give me--I'm a tough one to win over, professionally.
I asked for Keith....if he would have me.
I'm not an easy one to 'manage' some moments.
Respect, professional and personal, has to exist for me for some reason.
I respect the man greatly.
I don't think I got a sense of how Keith viewed my relationship with him until this week.
I knew he respected me and valued my opinion, my mission and my passion around that mission. I knew he respected where I came from and how I got to where I am, today.
I didn't know how much he simply valued my friendship and my relationship with him as a human being.
I sat in a room with the 'leadership' of the agency and only two people knew the man was looking at a test for a faulty heart valve they'd discovered after doing a recent test.
I know why the other person who had the information was given it.
I was humbled when I discovered I was the only other person in the room who knew what he was looking at possibly getting to do.
Humbled is a good word for it.
No sense of self importance....not one smidgeon of smug 'aren't *I* special!'....
Just a deep sense of humility for having somehow been graced with the man's respect and trust that he'd want to share that truth with me.....
ME.
It's gotta be a G-d thing.
I'm just not that damn good............
