And so we'll begin.......

Thursday, she tells me.  Radiation will start.
About fricking time, if you ask me.  But I'm WELL familiar with the 'hurry up and wait' syndrome.
*sigh*

Now it's just a matter of deciding on the cocktail she'll take weekly with the radiation.

She's got a normal mishmosh of emotions going on.  That's okay--I listened to 'em.  I do that well.  And when I say 'listen' I mean via text--she's still struggling to talk in an understandable manner, which is why she's going to speech therapy, swallowing therapy and hearing therapy (apparently you start to hear yourself talking clearer than the rest of the world, hence the need for 'hearing therapy'....wow.....that makes sense!).

And she was a tad envious......

Yesterday evening the neighbor came to ask me some questions--the grandfather is taking radiation for skin cancer and was tripping over his own feet. They wanted to ask me if that was 'normal' for the first treatment.

Um.......NO.

So I checked in on the grandfather who lives across the way--
He WAS a bit loopy......

But when you take valium back to back so you're 'relaxed' for radiation--your feet become a nuisance.  Go figure!!

The sister didn't get valium prescribed.
I assured her that's because she already trips over her own feet.
*laughing*  She bought it!

In the meantime, I've packed up a Happy Almost Birthday box for the sister--skirts that'll fit her for lazing around in and every day wear--they'll work better for her than slacks or shorts, given the state of her body at this moment in time.
She's fun to buy for....and easy cuz she's MY size.  *sigh*
The good news is she's holding that weight and taking walks to keep herself in decent shape for the processes she's about to enter.

Oh....and I packed in some toys!
NOISY toys and messy toys!

*snickering*
The BIL will love me anyway!!

***duplicates of the noisy toys WERE purchased for a small child who'll come visit for the weekend soon

The Grandad will love me anyway too. :-/

How do you manage to keep your evil chuckles quieter than the noise toys?

Hi Mel,

You are a good gal. I am sure that your care package will me very very appreciate, toys and all! :))

Wishing loads of strenght to your sis. Therapy gives hope and reminds us to look forward.

Be strong.

You are such a fabulous sister, Mel. I don't have any idea what my sister could really use right now as she heals. She is choosing to only talk to her Therapist - she's not talking to any family members about her surgery except to tell me she has had very little pain and that the surgery is healing nicely. I'm not sure if this is the new meds she's on for her Bi-Polar or not. The fact that her daughter is not in touch tells me that things are going okay, however.

But she doesn't answer the phone or her messages.

I have to let it be... That's so hard, but I must respect her needs! She has ever been the immovable force when she has her mind made up.

Loads of love to you!

If I had a sister I would like her to be like you. You are amazing. Lots of good wishes and prayers go to your sister on the eve of chemo. Hope she likes the toys.

Brilliant shopping, you've got absolutely everything covered - oh, except maybe ear mufflers for the BiL?

It must be a relief that the radiation is finaslly going to start. Hope the cocktail recipe is good and not too difficult for her.
Big hugs to you all
xxx

At last I am here for a catch up and I have been wondering how your sister is doing, you have both been in my thoughts despite the enforced absence.

It's wonderful making care packages for someone you know so well, and know how much they'll like it. (or be annoyed by it as the case may be :-) )

stuff that will make her laugh and smile are the bestest things during radiation.
