Black and White

I have trouble with shades of gray.

I'm much more content in the 'black and white'.

Even in the face of adversity--especially in the face of adversity....I'm good with 'black and white'.

It's that darn gray that gets me near every time.....

What a GORGEOUS photo, dear lady!

OMG...I too love black and white.

Yet it's funny...because as I'm getting older, I'm beginning to appreciate and enjoy gray.

It's that space "in between"

That area of "nothing definite"

And I've found the most interesting things while in gray.

ooooh..and this post just gave me a great idea for a post for next week!!

Thanks Mel!!!

Have a GRANDE' weekend!

I learned a valuable lesson today, so I won't mention that classical photography is in black and white, or that Ansel Adams designed his 64 zone priting system to have 64 shades of grey.

I learned to focus on your words. So little in life is actually black and white. It's what drives us crazy in dealing with our institutions who deal with us as if everything was black and white, but everything is really shades of grey. Well said< Mel, and thanks for being so insightful, again!

When working in black & white, which is what all the old-time photographers did, they weren’t looking at colors, but rather looking at the tones those colors created and the type of textures within each scene. Life is more luscious, I think, in the variegated land of tone and texture if we allow ourselves to take that closer look.

I appreciate being able to acknowledge the crossover of the black and white. I applaud compromise and finding common ground. I realize sometimes not everything is black or white.

however...
when people say to me:

"well....it's a grey area"I just really really want them to tell me what that means.

Cause I am thinking they are either uncomfortable taking a stand and they don't want to stick their neck out...

OR

They have no idea what they are talking about and don't want to own up to not knowing!

(Monty...much of Mr Adams work is in a special collection at UC Santa Cruz. If you ever get a chance to visit...put that on your list...)
